Sorry About That!!!

As many of you have probably guessed - I've been wrestling a bit with the server back here - and it appears to be "winning"!!?

It just "locks up" for no apparent reason at all - typically early in the AM (about 1-2 AM EDT?) Anyway - I'm trying to track down what is causing it (bad memory? NIC? - I don't know, as there are no error logs indicating the problem?)... I may end up replacing the entire server if I can't figure it out.

Anyway - will keep you posted, just know I'm aware of it - and trying to rectify it ASAP!

Thanks for your patience on this..!

With aging, I have had the gold on gold connectors on memory SIMMs get noisy and cause machines to fail.

My fix has been to remove the SIMM, use a pencil eraser to gently abrade the gold contacts on both sides, clean it with a microfiber cloth and reinsert with a wiping motion against the motherboard connectors.

Sometimes re-seating a CPU in it's socket can also help eliminate noise that can cause this kind of problem.

No big problem as electronic things sometimes seem to have a mind of their own.'

Back on. New memory banks in the main server and a new MySQL init file.

The secondary servers are upgraded as well....

Hang on to your hats - here we go...

Looking good, John!

Memory does get flaky from time to time... Especially when there is static (lightening) in the area...

I just had to go through the re-seating procedure on my server, including the memory SIMMs and the CPU. A new coat of thermal grease for the CPU too...

Well - to be honest?

I also replaced the power supply, moved to back-up images of the drives (RAID) - then upgraded MySQL and PHP (as I had a memory leak on a PHP call - but - well - that's another chapter ;) ). While the server was "down", also updated the memory on this box - and the supporting servers..??

What a wonderful Sunday..??

Anyway - simply..?

Thanks!! I hope these stick.? If not, please know I'll be back here - doing what I do I guess?

My best and thanks again!

Well, I think the server is tired, just turn it off for a couple of days :D

The withdrawal a few would have would be like epic...

Although I apparently missed this foray by being otherwise kept busy, I'll say thanks, guys, for takin' care of business. I think I am one of the withdrawal people. Although I don't necessarily visit every single day (usually though), I shudder to think of the shock and horror I might have experienced if I'd tried to log on without results!
