1906 Portuguese Luger
 

Hello, I think I have a gun that has been re-barreled (6 inch in 9mm) and possible re-blued. It clearly has altered sights.

Thinking I have a shooter here bit would like the experts opinions.

Yes you have a M2 Portuguese Luger that has been set up as a target shooter. This drops the collector valve considerably.
I don't see a Toggle retaining pin , and you should check this out before shooting the gun.
The gun has likely been re-blued, but not recently most likely when the modification was done. The rear sight was removed and a new adjustable one installed.
Have a gun smith check your head spacing before going to the range. The breach block looks newer than the upper frame and this combined with the missing toggle pin gives me some reasons to be concerned.

I think Vern has already done quite a good job with his post, in fact You've got a Portuguese "Manuel Secundo" that for some obsure reason was converted into a target shooter with deep alterations (adjustable rear sight!).
I don' t think it has any collectible value, but if you must have it properly checked by a good armourer before you use it at the range.
Remember:
1) proper check by a competent armourer
2) Never shoot modern high power cartridges with it.
3) Shoot safe.

Manuel Segundo (meaning Manuel the Second)

The reason for the conversion is not obscure. It's an excellent target pistol. Even in the military configuration I might add.

I think it is a very nice looking Luger that is most likely a really good shooter. I would be proud to have it in my safe.

I would wonder if the front sight is not missing its blade...the Micro sight sits awfully high for that front sight to be complete...

There have been a couple other Lugers with Micro rear sights installed shown here in the last year or two...It appears to have been a popular mod...

Can you show a couple more pics of the front and rear sights??? I'm sure someone is itching to try a micrometer sight modification... :rolleyes:

Thanks for all the great info. I am glad that my initial observations were correct. I have been wanting a shooter and I think I have it.

More pics of the sight. It does appear to be missing a blade, any suggestions on finding a replacement part?

If there is a name on it, you could try GB or eBay. Having a forum member with some machining experience is another option, but would almost certainly require mailing the barrel/receiver + rear sight to him.

You could try having your local gunsmith [if he is a smith and not a parts changer] mock up something for you from whatever he has on hand.

Now, if it were me, I would make a blade from steel stock. My blade would likely be wider than the slot. I mean the slot would only be for mounting; the blade width would likely be ~.100" or even ~.125"...I would make it trapezoidal rather than a half-moon, simply because that's what I like... :thumbup:
