Like "boyscout775", post 6-29-2014, I have recently acquired a DWM 1921, marked in a very similar way to the one posted by "boyscout775"

I have a very narrow knowledge base on Lugers and have posted some photos with the hope that someone can tell me what I have.

This gun has army acceptance and proof markings. It does not appear to have a suffix underneath the serial number. The serial number is in correct range for a 1921 DWM per Weimar Lugers by Jan Still.

Does it have any unit markings on the grip strap? I have a 1921 DWM that is marked 1./R.R.8.28 on the grip front grip. That is for the 8th Regiment of the Weimar cavalry.

Is there a small hole on the top of the side plate? That would be indicate that it had a sear safety at one time and was used by police unit.

You are correct; no suffix underneath the serial number, no unit markings on grip strap and no hole on top of side plate. Barrel is pristine as is feed ramp.

Can an approximate value be placed based on info and photos supplied?

If it were a WW1 gun, 1918 or older, I'd say that given the condition it should bring $1500-$1750(ballpark). Just what, if anything, that 1921 date stamp will do for the value remains to be seen. I'm guessing that it won't really help, because while you don't see it that often, it excludes the WW1 collectors. But let's see what the others have to say.

One last thing. I retook the barrel S# and blew it up a little and there is another number under the main one (about 75% size) It looks like 883. Does this mean anything?

Bore diameter, in milimeters, from land to land. Usually 8,82 or 8,83. Common to military numbered guns.

As to value of this gun, I paid $1000 for my 1921 DWM in 2009. I also sold a 1920 DWM with a sear safety for $1175 recently thru a consignment at a local gun shop. The 1920 did not have any police markings. Neither gun had a matching number magazine. Both guns had well used finish. Hope this info helps.
