repairs in the field

When Lugers were in use in the First World War, and there was a parts breakage of a numbered part, would the replacement ( say the takedown lever) be renumbered to match the rest of the gun or left blank?

According to Sturgess (page 472) repairs prior to 1919 repairs requiring simple replacement of parts were done at Company or Battery unit armory level.

Parts that didn't require extensive fitting like Extractors, Firing Pins, Magazines and Grip Screws were stocked fully finished and with inspection stamps.

Parts that required filing and fitting were stocked in the white, were fitted, tempered, polished and finished in the field and were serial marked when installed. This included side plates, sear bars, triggers.
