Dreams & stuff!

OK guys, here's what's happening... I have cutters being made for grips, and blanks ordered for barrels! So, this post is just to find out, who's on board!...... I plan on making barrels in the 6" navy and standard style to start with, all 9mm, not because I feel they are the most popular, it is just that I need them now! ...:)... anyway, I'm going to TENTIVELY, take orders on the barrels... the grips will come along as things fall into place... Let me know if you're interested, and what you would like... (it will help me build a fire under my machinist!) best to all, til...lat'r....GT

Edward Tinker 06-25-2014 10:42 PM

GT, how much approximately are you thinking for six inch barrels?

G.T. 06-25-2014 10:52 PM

cheap & good!

Hi Ed, I just have to see how it all pans out... but to you, always wholesale, or less!........ Same with Luger doc, Rich, Rick, and a few others... Looks like this.. 1) blanks, 2) lathe work, (threads & contour)mill work, (front sight base and other?) 3) blue... Soooooo, what's left??... depends on how cheap I can get the first 3 things done??... All I have solid right now is the lathe guy... But, I'm excited...(doesn't take much!! :jumper::jumper:) But, if I have solid orders, it makes it easier to get others involved.... I may not be able to get anything done, but, it doesn't hurt to try.... best to all till....lat'r...GT:cheers:

I will say for sure yes on one six inch barrel GT. If they come in cheaper, than another or more ;)

kzullick 06-26-2014 10:13 AM

If you build it, they will come.

Lugerdoc 06-26-2014 11:10 AM

GT, I wholly agree with the above comment. I'd be a buyer of at least 6 of each of your 6" x 9mm barrels. TH

I think you have found a niche...a quality domestic source of barrels is long overdue. Good luck! (If I can come up with a nice condition commercial receiver I probably will be a candidate for a 6" :))

GT,
great news that you are offering the new barrel service !!!

my interest would be ( perhaps later on after the original patterns get established )
1- 9mm fat barrel profile like 1904 luger or 45 luger in 6/7/8" lengths with front sight base cut to match with the Brownell mauser blade front sights ( or similiar )
2- 9mm Dewey custom profile very thick flange with/without sight 7/8" lengths
3- bull barrel with some minor profiling thick flange

would you do the barrel mount / chamber / headspace etc onto customer provided upper asy ?

best of luck to you in the quest !!!
Bill

GT,

Would you be planning on making Artillery barrels with the space for rear sights?

G.T. 06-26-2014 11:28 PM

Thanks for all the input!

Hi guys, well, we are going to forge ahead on the barrels early next month... we will make identical (except front sight base height) 6" barrels in the Navy and standard P.08 commercial versions... I'm sure our first run will be less then a dozen barrels... As it will be set up and fixture time... I don't believe we will get into the artillery types... Like to, but just the mill work on the standard barrels will be enough of a challenge for us... Thanks for all the input, you guys are great! best to all, til...lat'r....GT...

I would be interested in a 6 inch bbl to replace the 4 inch on my shooter grade Luger. Please let me know when these become available or how to order. Thanks!

GT,

Any new info on the production of grips for our Lugers ? Being a "grip-a-holic", I am sure that you can count me in for at least one pair, and possibly more.

G.T. 07-23-2014 08:03 PM

Hi Doc!

Yes! I'm working on the grips concurrently with the barrel projects, as there are long lulls in both endeavors... But, I have submitted prints and have gone ahead with the first form tool cutter heads to make the grips! The very first (two) tools are going to cost me approximately a thousand dollars!!!!..... and, they are only the first two, of twenty separate operations in my business plan to make the grips a reality..... (I haven't yet acquired machines to turn them!, But why sweat the small stuff!..) best to all, til...lat'r....GT...

After all, it's only money...

GT, One subvariation of the 6" barrels that you may want to consider, is the longer threaded area for the long frame Navys. TH

Wow! Luger collectors have come a long way in what is available to keep and preserve fine Lugers. The craftsmen ready to touch-up, mend, repair,straighten-up, replace and/or replicate is becoming phenomenal - to say the least.
I am sure that George Luger would be proud and pleased; as well as being amazed. All of the enjoyment from his productions.
Thanks
Jack

Barrel progress!

Well, here's where we are at right now.. I have pow-wowed with my CAM CAD lathe guy and we have reached the following mile markers.. We have enough blanks for approx. 2 dozen 6" barrels and another half dozen 4.250" length barrels... all will be 9mm this first go around.. we have fabricated threaded female mounting and indexing fixtures both for turning the profiles after threading the stub, and indexing to mark the timing point to do all the secondary operations on a Bridgeport with a rotary table.. Interesting note: after several tests, using both 55 degrees and 60 degrees, we have found that it seems to make little or no difference as to the thread pitch between these two??, we have settled on 60 just because tooling is readily available... I think Rich or Rich might have mentioned this in another post.. Just goes to show how much knowledge these two have on this, as of yet, un-walked path for me?? ....:)......I respect their insight and info. and look forward to more... Well, that's it for now.. will chime back in as events occur... Hope fully I'll end up with something more than a few hundred bucks worth of 4140 scrap metal! Best to all, til...lat'r....GT:cheers:

hey moderator!

Can you move this thread to the restoration thread?...Thanks, I don't think it really belongs here right now... Thanks for all, til...lat'r...GT:cheers:
