Archduke Ferdinand Assassinated

...100 years ago this week...

Despite being simplistic and several inaccuracies, the Buffalo News article was pretty interesting...

History in a nutshell, so to speak...

I was working for UNCHR in 1995, and had to go to Sarajevo several times. It was kind of a weird feeling to stand right where the assassination happened, and at the same time seeing the effects of yet another war all around me.

It is interesting to note that it took almost 90 years for the murder's gun being correctly identified. For years had been said that it was a FN Browning 1900, but it was a Model 1910 - that also resurfaced only 10 years ago. Two shots, two kills - Gavrilo was indeed a great shooter.

They should have let in the army; he'd be much more useful to his country there.
