Anyone here also enjoy this fine firearm?

I don't enjoy them, but I have (or had) half a dozen of them. Mostly retros, but one DPMS flattop HBAR carbine with a scope & flip-up irons. An XM607, a DOE 633. Fantasy stuff mostly. Copies of Reed's collection. If it looked cool, I cloned it. ;)

I have some also, and mainly use them for teaching rifle classes.

A couple of years ago, I picked up one of the M4 profile Dark Earth Magpul furniture equipped rifles made right here in North Carolina by Del-Ton. It's a really nice AR-15.

They never did it for me. Reliability has always been important to me so I'm more of a Combloc kinda' guy.

I regularly build my own for shooting or for friends. I have a number of configurations, from a Factory 639 to virtually any combination of uppers to swap out imaginable

I have a Stag Arms left handed upper mated to a Spike Tactical receiver. Need to take it out and sight it in (I'm more of a handgun fanatic then with rifles.)

I purchased my first(Rock River Arms) AR15 between "scares" of the political kind. It seems to be a well built piece, but I am a handgun guy, and my indoor range will not let me shoot it there. My closest rifle range is 60 miles round trip.

I have had two or three, i finally started thinning those guns out that were not the rounds I wanted to keep around. So the last AR went away. I am very used to the standard model, having used an M16A2 etel for 20 years in the army.

I do regret having sold my AR10 that I'd bought from my brother...

Still, no matter what you think of these guns, it pays to invest in a shoe box full of stripped lower receivers, which are going for as low as $69 in some places, to have for a rainy day.

The balance of the parts will most likely be the last thing big government will try to regulate and should be obtainable when the next new scare comes on. I sold several ARs made from my shoebox stash last summer for ridiculous prices to people who had not prepared.

I built one in 6.8 SPC and hunted with it very successfully for 3 years, just parted with it. Going back to the oldie but goodies, you know the 30-30's, 45-120's and things like that. I guess for some they are goodies :) :)

I really like them and currently have a Daniel Defense 16" M4 upper on a Stag lower with an Eotech scope. Would have more if the Luger bug hadn't bitten about 1 1/2 years ago. Bill

I built an "A1" clone with a mil-surp Vietnam-era M16 upper (bought at Knob Creek) for my VN vet Dad a few years back. I liked it so much, I procured another Colt VN-era upper and built one myself on a Colt Lightweight Sporter Lower -- it really looks the part, especially with the canvas sling.

My last trip to Knob Creek a couple of years ago netted me a genuine GI surplus M16A2 upper made by FN. I built that one up on a Stag lower. Both rifles shoot great, but the A2 clone's FN upper looked new when I bought it. It had been 'demil-ed' by removing the forward assist. 5 minutes and $12 took care of that.

I really like my A2 build, because that is the rifle I was issued while I was in the Army, but I far and away prefer my A1 build...so light, handy, and plenty accurate considering the upper very likely saw lots of use!

I have to add that I bought all three GI surplus uppers for $180 each! I've less than $500 in each of three builds I've done so far. Next will be a VN-era XM-177 clone, and then a flat-top M4 type. ARs are addictive too! I do prefer the 20" rifles, though. The 5.56 round performs much better out of a 20in barrel...

I've had mine for several years. I bought it from a County Deputy who built it for inter-agency matches, using all top of the line parts on an LMT lower.

He won several matches with it. It is the most accurate AR I have ever fired. There have been several over the years, but this one is hands down the best by far...

I have built two and bought one Bushmaster already built. One of the builds is a target gun that (so far) shoots 1/2 MOA consistently at 100 yards, and 1/4 MOA on a good day. I was thinking about hand loading to get better results, but I have so many other projects going on that I simply don't have time.

They are kind of fun to build, it's almost like playing with Lego. I haven't done any work on them in a while, the only thing I have done lately was to put a Slide Fire stock on the Bushmaster. It's one of those things you "just have to have", but after trying it a couple of times you'll think: "Ok, now what?" It was fun for a while, but it's probably coming off pretty soon.

Was issued A1's & A2's in the Army...never really liked the feel and often talked whoever was humping the 60 out of it after the first march...
back then I was built like Lou Ferrigno so the M60 felt like a proper rifle, the M16 felt like a nerf gun...
as a rifle the M16's work just fine...if you can shoot worth a dang the E on the ribbon is achievable :)

When I was stuck with them, they never coughed...as I kept mine clean & the dust cover CLOSED.
Kind of important in sandy areas...lots of city kids discovered the hard way what happens when you don't close the cover after firing...
simply can't run around with the dust cover open...crud gets in there QUICK!!
Mag disciplne also must be maintained...can't be dropping 'em in the dirt all over the place...
heh, starting to become a reminder of the 80's/90's...LOL
Anyway, keep clean, lightly lubed, its a sewing machine.

Nowadays, I don't own any, the one I do have in the building process is for the Wifey...a Pink AR15...hey, gotta keep the Mrs. happy!!

Drug a CAR around live fire for 16 months.
No real complaints. It was better than the M2 Carbine I 1st had.

I fool with all kinds of stuff today, but for some reason I have an aversion to ARs.
Friend asked me to check his out and I did not even want to touch it.

Although all troops in-country called them "CARs", yours was an XM177E2.

We knew exactly what they were=it was stamped on the side.

Much more expedient in use to say My "CAR" than my "XM177E2."

Some of that nomenclature stuff tended to be tedious.:D

I am too a com bloc fan but I do own a nice mixmaster ar 15 built from parts I've accumulated. I am a very big fan of the israeli version of the there carbine. Look tough built tough with a unique retro style a classic example of taking what you have and developing it into a good weapon system.
