The Sights Are Calibrated!
1 Attachment(s)
I took a close look at the front sight of my Krieghoff Luger and much to my surprise it appears to have been adjusted. My question by who and when? Are they calibrated before delivery or left to the owner? How many actually own an adjustment tool!!! None of my others lugers seem to be touched! Eric

They are originally done at the factory, then a witness mark is stamped into the flat part of the upper base, which covers both the base and the sight's beveled slide. If someone subsequently moves the sight, this stamped line will no longer line up.

That does make sence~But why would anyone need to adjust a sight horizontlally? It can't be for vertical windage as ever day would vary~~

The sight is moved horizontally to bring the point of aim and point of impact into coincidence horizontally, it has nothing to do with vertical movement. It also has nothing to do with adjusting for wind...it is a correction for the physical placement of the shot by the pistol as manufactured. P.S. I have a Vickers Dutch Luger with the front sight displaced the same way! However, it has been moved away from the factory setting as the index marks do not line up. But a new index mark was struck at a very slight angle to indicate it was a re-strike, obviously to meet the sight picture requirements of the individual that owned/used it at the time. Not everyone looks at the sights the same way and it also may have something to do with which eye is dominant vs. left or right handed shooter. |
Facinating~~ that makes perfect sence! TKS as Always~Eric
