Datig book
Palladium Press, which I believe is the NRA, is offering a nicely bound Datig Luger book for $25.

odd the reprint is the original and not the revised updated edition with the color section and some corrections
a few years ago someone on ebay was offering a disc copy of the Datig and Jones books for just a few bucks thanks for info - great buy for only $25 - looks like high quality - guess the copyright must have expired Bill |
Interesting...I have the 1958 4th Revised Edition published by Fadco...No color pics... :(
But it does have actual B&W pics of Lugers that experts on Jan's Forum insist do not exist... :D |
As ridiculously overpriced as most Luger books are - this is a breath of fresh air!

I'm with you! Great suff! I've got my original signed 1955 #1910 of #2000 copy. Always relevant! ~Eric

Some of Jans books are going for close to $1000- This is Fred Datigs original in 1955 http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss...an+still+luger Eric

Makes me wonder if the copyright on Fred Datig's book expired, or if this is an authorized reprint. If authorized, I wonder why they would not go with the later editions...
This year is 60 years since original publication |
curious if a new printing or just a copy of an original book. if someone buys, plz let us know.
copying did not work out for the little test eagle book by mickael reese when the reprint came out. you can barely see details of the original photos and document. |

Harry Jone published 'Luger Variations" which was the same style as 'Luger At Random' and I still use it today for individual luger models and history! This is the book that should be reprinted!!It has over 100 seperate lugers with complete descriptions with pictures and the approximate amount produced! ~~Eric

I check Ebay.They are a little lower~ http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=...ll+book&crdt=0

perhaps it was the Jones ( not Datig ) book revision that had the color prints added - will check and update later
thanks Bill |

Mine has literally dozens of hand-printed notes on the pages/pics, most saying "Have" with a serial number. I'm guessing it belonged to a serious Luger collector, as the value of the noted Lugers would be tens of thousands of dollars... What is interesting about the handwritten notes is that they are in pen & ink, not ballpoint pen. I haven't seen anyone write with pen & ink since the early/mid fifties... No name in it, just a couple numbers inside the front cover... |
Living Luger History! I found 2 notes years ago, both Mausers. I think it a great idea and plan to record mine on ther inside cover of Kenyan's 'Luger At Random'!! 'Obsessive Compulsive Luger Behavior' at its finest! Tks Eric

re "perhaps it was the Jones ( not Datig ) book revision that had the color prints added - will check and update later" my comment in prior post above - I found my copy of Luger Variations and it is the one which had a few color full single page pictures
this issue with the color pictures added and perhaps some error corrections only, was the 4th printing in March 1975 thanks Bill |
