First luger...

1 Attachment(s)
This is my first post on this site, I hope you guys can read it!
I am looking for a first luger, mainly for range and plinking use. There is a Interarms Mauser import listed on Gunbroker for $675. It looks to be in good shape, but the seller states that the second magazine has a weak spring that can cause feeding problems. He also said that the pistol has been fully inspected by a gunsmith and is "fully functional".
The Interarms Mauser imports look to be of good quality, but is the quote about the second magazine spring weakness enough of a flag to pass over the pistol? Also, what is the highest I should offer for this pistol.
Thanks.

I'd say that $675 is on the low side for those guns, as they generally show up at $900-$1300. Is it 9mm or .30 cal? We have a magazine whiz on this forum who can make fast work of mag. spring issues, assuming that is really the feeding problem.
Good luck;

If you can purchase that Mauser for anywhere close to that amount.....grab it!! You can not possibly get hurt at that price.

Thanks guys. It is a 9mm. We'll see how it goes...

Perhaps our Mauser aficionados will confirm that this a transitional gun? The safety lever has a round knob, Swiss style. IIRC, there was not quite a smooth transition from production of Swiss frame models to those configured like the P.08, and differences in their respective toggle ramps can be observed, as described in a post by Gerben some time ago...

It also has the straight grip frame, as per the 'Swiss style' Interarms Lugers. Still, at that price, it is a steal. If it hasn't sold already, you should grab it.

Rich is correct about the grip frame. Pardon my hallucination about the P.08 grip frame, it's Swiss. (Just zoomed in on the pic, whereas I did not, last night:o) So, forget about the transitional stuff, this should be the earlier Swiss frame, straight up, with 4" bbl.

I think everyone agrees so far that this one is very well priced.

There was a member here who was even looking to buy just the box! Can't go wrong on this one.

DavidJayUden 05-12-2014 11:41 AM

Well, it was reasonably priced...

The right grip is either out of place or else horribly fitted.

You are certainly right Doug...The right grip is horribly fitted. That grip looks like it was fitted with a box cutter! ...and THEN checkered!

The pricing went up dramatically towards the end of the auction; it sold in the $900+ range.
Thank you to everyone who responded.
What is a good forum for purchasing my first Luger? I just want a shooter to start out. Some of those auction sites, like Gunbroker, have P-08's, but as I am not familiar with Lugers, I would hate to make a $1,000 mistake.

You will probobly be glad its not your first!! Eric

Personally, I would shop right here, in the for sale or want to buy columns. We keep each other honest...

Good advice! Thanks DavidJayUden.

Being the DA that I can be sometimes I didn't BIN on this one this morning. Started thinking about it on the way to work and said to myself that was stupid, stupid, stupid. I looked at it at work and of course someone else was smarter than I. Could have sold off most of the extras and had a cheap shooter. This was a good deal in my opinion.

Did someone here get this one? If so, I would be interested in the wood base mag if it is truly marked Mauser.

cirelaw 05-12-2014 05:26 PM

Commeratives are only good to store in a closet not to shoot!

SteveM 05-12-2014 08:51 PM

It wasn't a commemorative, it was the standard P08 model. Even if it was a commemorative it was missing all of the accessories that would have gone with it.
