1939 S/42 Luger
Hi All. I am a brand new member of the forum here. So, first of all, hello!
I have always been a huge fan of Luger pistols since I grew up shooting a lot of my grandfather's war model guns. Anyway, I finally, after many years, decided to buy 2 lugers. I bought a WWII numbers matching with matching magazine and holster 1939 S/42 for collecting and showing off and a 1993 Mitchell Arms stainless American Eagle Luger for shooting. If you guys would be so kind as to take a look at the following and tell me how I did on price, I would appreciate it. Personally, I absolutely love both of these guns. So, if I overpaid, it isn't that big of a deal. I got what I wanted and I am content with that. I was really just curious if I was close to what they are actually worth, or not. Thanks in advance for your collective knowledge. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=391728271 http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=390896673 |
Welcome aboard!
The 1939 rig looks good, and I'm not seeing anything that jumps out at me. The finish is a bit thin, but there were some years that just seemed to get that way quickly, more so than others. The price you paid is certainly top dollar, but in 15 years you'll probably think it was a darn good investment. At least I hope so. Don't know all that much about the Mitchell Lugers, they don't have a great reputation, but at least you're not in too deep. The question in my mind is: "does it shoot well?". Some of those guns are a PITA, so I hope yours runs like a clock. Congratulations, and let us know how the Mitchell shoots. dju |
l sure like the '39.......and if the shooter shoots, enjoy.........tom

I had read some negative reviews about the Mitchell Lugers. However, I am happy to report that it is 100 percent reliable so far. It has a very nice trigger and it eats up factory and reloads without a hitch. I suppose that I have about 200 rounds through it now. Also, it looks pretty sexy in the stainless. It looks like it was never fired before I shot it too. So, I would imagine that I bought someone's safe queen, or perhaps the owner died?
As for the S/42, I was told that it was a G.I. bringback. It is too bad that I don't have anything that can substantiate that... There are 3 names inside of the holster flap that can just be made out. 2 of the top names have a line through them with the bottom name unobstructed. I can only assume that the bottom name probably belongs to the German soldier that it was taken from. It would be interesting if I could eventually do some research into those names and perhaps find out something about the soldiers that carried the weapon. |
I just noticed that the same seller now has a very similar 1937 P08 listed too.

My 1939 Luger from the "r" block also has the very thin, almost translucent blued appearance. At first, I thought that a prior owner had improperly cleaned it, but I have now seen several like yours.

Send your holster to Jerry Burney (Lugerholsterrepair) here on the list for the repair of that belt loop.

I agree. Perhaps a tad overpaid, but a real nice rig. Very nice gun and if you are happy, what else is there to say.

As a shooter probably I would have chosen a later model say a Mauser dated 1941/1942 but the main thing is that you have good fun at the range.
Safe shooting. Sergio |
