new and old,help please
I have just obtained a 1938/ s/42 luger, vet bring back, no holster, 1 original mag, 1 metgar? mag, nice shape but has been nickeled, how bad does that hurt the value, or does it, it is a 3 dig # matching gun, I bought it for a "shootable" price, well under what I seen market is, and how do you get pictures to upload? thanks

Welcome to the forum. You have a shooter, not a collector. If you got the gun in the ballpark of $600, give or take, you did OK.

if the "shooters" only bring $600, why don't people have them for sale for that price, I looked on gunsinternational and they had 2 nic guns on there, both were $1500 +

They are whatever you want to afford in buying them - I find that nickle guns go from $550-$750 - depends on if they were buffed before
depends on what came with them $1500 - then buy a non nickle gun? scores of lugers for less than $1500 that are original.... |
click any of your previous postings - then GO Advanced and than Manage Attachments
Browse to where pictures are then hit upload |
pictures too large is the likely problem

A good internet search will turn up nickeled guns in the ballpark we have given you. I sincerely hope you didn't pay much more. |

The difference is that here you get straight to the wheat, whereas elsewhere, you still have to dig thru a lot of the chaff... dju |
You haven't posted any pics yet; it's possible that if the nickle plating is not flaked, and the buffing is minimal or not buffed at all, and it has a set of smooth Ivory or bone grips, then it might be in the $800 ballpark... :)
A dealer might want a nickle plated Luger as a come-on for his display table at a gun show... Most of the plated Lugers I've seen here have been so buffed that they look melted...Edges rounded; markings faint or non-existent... :( Smith & Wesson has perfected the nickle plated finish...I have a model 25-2 and it is a thing of beauty... Post some pics! Maybe it'll draw some oohs & ahhs... :D |
Well first of all welcome to this forum made of Luger aficionados, where I'm sure you'll find lots of information on these beautiful guns.
I agree with the previous posts you should manage to post some pictures of your luger just to have an idea of what we are talking about. |
