Triple-Kay mags with FXO springs...

G.T. thought this might be of general interest, hence this post...

Long story short:

I currently have 5 mags for my Luger: an Erfurt from the teens, an "older" Mec-Gar; and three (3) Triple-kays, each (of the latter) with a G.T. installed FXO spring.

The Erfurt and older Mec-Gar work pretty well most of the time, although every once in a while the Mec-Gar won't hold back, and the Erfurt won't feed its last round consistently. G.T. was able to improve them substantially (no more stovepiping or jams, but they continue to give the occasional holdback/last round problem - not enough to worry about. MAY or may not be ammo related.

All 3 of the Triple-kays have been working flawlessly. They only hold 7 rounds instead of 8, but its starting to look like these are the hidden gems.

Continued research at the range is indicated!

Thank you for the info. I am always glad to hear about a new(to me at least) combo that will help to get these Lugers running reliably.

Yea, its interesting. Lotsa folks seem to have problems with tri-kay mags, but it looks like G.T. may have found the magic recipe. At least with these, in my gun, with my ammo, at my range, wearing my skirt.

Your Mileage May Vary...

Another range session. This time the older Mec-Gar was flawless (loaded twice), the three tri-kays with FXO springs continued to be flawless (each loaded once), and the old Erfurt (also loaded twice) again failed to feed the last round (both times). It *was* a different brand of ammo this time (Freedom Munitions reloads this time vs. WWB last time).

Whatever this data means... :burnout:

failed to feed the last round (both times) is not an ammunition problem. Are the interior parts of your mags cleaned & lubed? failure to feed the last round might be a weak spring on your old Erfurt. The lack of holdback is another indicator of a weak spring. BUT if it is not feeding the last round it's not going to holdback anyway?

All correct - but G.T. has done his best with it, new spring, tuning it up, etc.

I'm not terribly concerned about it.
