1940 42 Luger (And its big brother)

I recently acquired my first luger from a member on this forum. You can find detailed discussion and close up pictures of this same luger in a thread below, so I am not going to bore you with those.

What I do want to show you is the reason that I wanted this specific date and code!

So I have my Luger 42 code 1940 (all matching bringback) and a 1940 42 code k98k (all matching bringback).

I am working on locating a 1940 holster for it and then I think I am going to move on to belt and buckle. Then a helmet!

This is going to get expensive!

Was Oberndorf producing anything besides these two firearms at the time?

My luger is a B block gun (2767 B) any idea on the month this was produced? I would like to try and figure out the month my K98 was produced as well.

months are always a guess - you take approx how many made in a year and divide it - no official records out there

I would think that Mauser made machine guns, artillery, etc that same year, besides the P38 ;)

You DEFINITELY need to look for an MP40 now. Very few weapons crews were armed with K98 and P08 (e.g. mortar and MG units), MP40/P08 was more common combo. Although P38was officially adopted by Wehrmacht at that time, many mid level officers were armed with MP40/P08 combo.

Once you get the MP40, you need to look at MG42,......where does it stop!? We're all sick.:surr:

I have been looking at mp40 parts kits for years!

That is my dream gun and when I was a kid I got to shoot one that was full auto. I will never forget that.

Parts kit prices have SKYROCKETED. Then if I get a parts kit, I will want to shoot it. I would never be happy with a dummy gun. Its hard for me to justify 2000-3000 bucks on a dummy gun.

There is a beautiful parts kit up on gun broker right now for an mp40. The fiance would murder me if I decided to purchase the mp40 over going on a honeymoon (:

I think my next purchase will be a g/k43.

I have some k98s I would not mind trading up towards a mp40 or g43.

Patience is difficult, but the big, great collections, take YEARS....

I Love the collection!

MANY, many years, lots of patience, and PLENTY of disposable income. The first piece in my collection, was acquired 32 years ago. I am missing ONE item, and I'm done. Been on the hunt for that piece since 2009.

No dummies for me either. If it doesn't "rock&roll", it doesn't have place in my collection. It's only money, time, and patience. The problem? Money is NOT a problem, but the time is running out, and the patience was never there!
