There are many G-date Lugers, but this one is mine!!

Scored a decent G-date, third variation today! Not as nice as some others I've seen here of late, but this one has that "been there, done that" character about it that I love as a collector.
It is my understanding that there were approx. 55,000 G-dates manufactured, and there were 7,000 (?) of this particular variation (with the W/154 and S/92 proofs). |
Nice score. Good for you. Isn't it nice when you can make yourself happy?

I try to take pleasure in the small things! I've always lusted after a G-date, since a K-date is likely out of reach (unless I get *really* lucky!).
I got this pistol at a good price. It is all matching (but the magazine), and it has the original rust blued finish. The bore is in very nice shape; nice and shiny with no pitting and plenty of rifling left! Need a correct G-date W/154-inspected mag, now... |
Nice! Same variation as mine  I know what you mean about condition, I really notice how nice mine is after seeing so many lugers, I was very lucky being it is one of the cleanest original Lugers that I've seen so far that is not refinished.
Is there a reason you lusted after the K and G dates? |
I've always been a fiend for all things Mauser, though I've not acquired any Mauser P.38's (yet). Someday, I'd love to have all 6 variations of the G-date (like Frank's sticky photo), and one each of the S/42's: 1936-1939, a 1940 42 code, and finally a byf 41. This may take many more years, though I am open to "lesser quality" guns (VoPo's, nickel-plated, mismatched shooters as part of the acquisition process.
My collecting peccadillos very much would resemble an insane conglomerate of multilple overlapping Venn diagrams, were I to spell everything out... |

Nice gun, congratulations for your aquisition, it looks quite an interesting collectible! Sergio |
This one has certainly "been there". That's blood etching on the receiver near the proofs.
|
We must to remember that these guns fought from the very first day to the last one. So, such condition is not a surprise. And I respect that.
