42 Code 1939

3 Attachment(s)
Hello all! I collect K98s and in my search for more matching vet bringbacks I have come across a Luger.

It was a 1939 Code 42 Luger that matched every number that I could see. Side top barrel etc. It had a holster with 2 magazines (non matching to the gun).

I could see WaA 63 marks on the right side.

I TRIED to snap some pictures but my phone did not cooperate and I had no where to set it. So I have very awful pictures that I am embarrassed to post.

What I am interested in is knowing if it is worth my time looking into it. The gentleman wants 1700 dollars for it.

I appreciate your responses.

Thanks!

To me $1700 may be just a bit on the high end but it's not too far off.
However the finish looks uneven, like the barrel extension is a different level of polish than does the barrel, etc. That could just be your artwork, but if the finish has been messed with that would be a deal breaker at that price. Also you need to verify internal numbers to make this deal fly.
More, and better photos will help us, as this is a borderline deal now.

Take a look at this http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthread.php?t=31977

there are lots of lugers out there, and this one might be the one you want, but if it is mismatched internally, toggle pin blank, hold open wrong number, etc, the value is much less than they want.

I noticed the color difference in the barrel too.

I just wanted to see if it was even worth me pursuing better quality photographs and more research.

To your point Ed, I have a k98 that is a 42 1940 and I think it would be neat to have a 42 1940 Luger as well. If I am going to spend the money I better make sure it's the one I want. Next one I come across I will be sure to follow the method for documentation you described.

Hopefully I can find one to add to my collection but I feel as though this is not the one to mess with.

Don't jump to quick, there are plentiful 42/1940's out there.

Thanks for everyone's help.

I will start looking around for the code and year I want. Hopefully I can pick up a shooter too. I have been pouring over as much information on this forum I can and will continue to read.

When I locate another I promise to take better pictures!
