Is this Navy Correct?
 

Looking at this 1906 Navy on Auction Arms. Looks to be a good buy if correct. Bid starts at $2,500 no reserve.

I have a couple of problems with this one..You better look at the left side of the Navy rear sight. The WW dockyard marking on the rear gripstrap is suspect to me. If the mag is matching I would sure expect a photo of it. Something about this whole presentation..or lack of has me colored suspicious.
I have been wrong before but like I say..I want to see more to allay my negative thoughts. In the meanwhile I am sure one of the more knowledgeable Navy guys will come along.

Hi Bill, If you're interested in this gun you should ask for more, and clearer photos, particularly ones of the receiver rails, magazine base and a close-up of the C/M marks on the left receiver. For what it's worth, the barrel serial numbers on guns this early should not have halos, they were numbered prior to bluing, and the W.W. marking (Werft Wilhelmshaven) looks correct also, these marks are almost always pantographed, like this one. All other Navy property marks were stamped.

OK! Thanks..Will add that to my memory banks. I appreciate it. The other concern I had with this pistol was the rear sight. From what little I could see the vertical lines don't reach down far enough? But the pic is not the best.

David, Imperial Navy Lugers are not the nosebleed section. They are front and center..courtside. $5750 is what I have seen run of the mill 1917 Navy's sell for recently. Werft Wilhelmshaven property marked 06 would demand a little/lot more IMO. The last Imperial Navy wooden stock I bought was over 3K. Holster right around $2-2500. A complete rig will top $10,000 any day of the week. Did I mention this stuff is relatively rare?

Wow, I'll have to pay more attention to that stuff.

hard to see, but the groove where the old gesichert was milled out is normally not blued but bare white metal that begins to rust. if blued in the groove, then maybe a refinish was done on the gun.

Some 06's, like mine, had the lower safety marking "scrubbed", instead of milled.

yes. still left white and not blued, tho, based on ones i have seen at Tulsa.
