Questions on lining a new pistol case
 

[B]My wife bought me a beautiful case at a antique show today. She thought it may be of use for a Luger case. My question is what is the best lining to use? Felt? After I cut out a slightly larger profile for the wood insert, how can the lining be form fitted inside the case and profile? Can one store a Luger in a case for a long period? This case does not have a glass panel in it
Found a compete matching (with matching mag.)1917 Luger at the show. condition about 85%. Asking price at $1,400. Sound fair?
OOPS, what would be the best adhesive to use on the lining, spray? Afraid some types of glue might filter through the lining and might harm the Lugers finish.

I believe the material you're looking for is called "Baize". It seems to be the same fabric used on pool tables, the gaming tables found at casinos and old fashioned card tables. I've seen it in both red as well as green. I've used it in two wooden cases I've made. The adhesive I've used is a spray product called "Duro All-purpose Spray Adhesive." 3M also markets a similar product.

The real trick is in the cutting and folding of the lining and a LIGHT coat of the spray glue. I hope this helps some. I'm sure the other members will respond with more clarity.

Gunny is correct. I think the material to which he refers might stretch a little, but most of the fitting will need to be done by trimming and tucking. +1 on the light coating of adhesive--only enough to hold the fabric in place. I advise lots of trial fitting to make certain it's going OK.

Storage of a clean and oiled pistol in the case would work out best if you toss in a packet of silica gel to absorb any moisture. Check regularly for any problems that might develop, and change out or re-invigorate the packet when needed.

My neighbor made a few and used velvet.

there is a stretch velvet that may work ok if the felt look is not required and I think both have ebay offerings - velvet is thinner than the felt so would probably need more backing preparation or doubling to look professional

anyone know a source for the gold braid like that used on the commerative mauser parabellum 1970s era wood cases ?
