Thoughts on this 30 cal Beauty
 

I'd like feedback on this 30cal.. trying to locate in my references, having a hard time.. mental block :typing:

its all matching :thumbup:

can I use this type of Ammo? or i should not shoot it? :confused:

its a 30 luger (7.65mm luger) - germany is the export marking for coming o the USA

the serial number or at least suffix would help place it...

I am not familiar with the box of ammo in the middle, but have shot Fiocchi and Remington 30 Luger ammo with no problems.

To me, the photos look like it is a clean commercial Luger. Nothing wrong is jumping out to me. Others will be along, I am sure.

Good photos. Looks like a pretty nice alphabet Commercial. I have a similar one that I like very much. GT on this forum can fix or replace the wood bottom on your mag. Cheers, KW

Midway is a company that sells reloading components, among other things. It looks like someone took a box the bullets came in and filled it with the loaded rounds after using the bullets that came in the box.

As mentioned it is a DWM Alphabet Commercial made in the 1922-1923 timeframe (5194l in the middle of the "l" block from what I can see).

These were exported from Germany and imported into the USA in fairly large numbers.

They are rust blued, and well made. My first Luger was one of these in the "m" block.

As mentioned, G.T. can restore the base of the magazine. I would probably not shoot it using a wood bottom magazine, but rather find a newer Mecgar.

Looks like you have the correct ammo. .30 Luger.

I personally don't shoot collectible firearms, but less exposure to value loss breaking an unnumbered part on one of these... If you shoot it, consider replacing the springs. Make sure you get the right recoil spring for a .30 Luger. They are different than the ones used in the 9mm Lugers...

Fiocchi has never given me any trouble, and I've shot quite a bit of it through my own DWM .30 Luger.

The Fiocchi FMJ is pretty good unless you happen to reload. Their soft pointed ammunition is all right in my .30 Luger, too.

First of all let me say that it's a beautiful gun, and your photos are really well made.
It's a "commercial" pistol made by DWM in the early 1920, they are not really scarce, and most of them still in good conditions.

Here in Italy a very good one would cost the equivalent of about USD 1,700.00

I had one of them many years ago, and sadly one day I decided to sell it for a vintage 1911.
Not long ago I was tempted to buy another one, then I gave up.

If it is all matching I would not shoot it, but it's your choice after all.
In any case I would have it inspected by a competent armourer before taking it to the range.

I saw that misterluger has one on GA.com at $1050 or so. And that is retail. I think that a nice one should be had for $900 or so.
