Interesting Luger on GA.com
For your viewing:
It had escaped my memory that Interarms imported older Lugers as well and that Mauser did reworks at that time. http://www.gunsamerica.com//90488434...2_9mm.htm?wl=1 dju |
Interesting that he describes it as a 5/42, instead of S/42. It sports an import/ID stamp, which is as big as Texas.

Wasn't 542 the sooper-dooper secret Nazi code for Totenkopf/SS/Spandau/Russian Contract Lugers???

Edit: Uh, oh...I have a 1937 S/42...And my toggle letter/numbers do not match these rounded-end numbers/letter... |
1938 Toggle Die

The toggle die had the thinner "4" in 1938. Here is mine and the 1937 with wider "4"...

Now, yes, they could be carved out with a rotary tool, but why stamp one year and rotary-tool another??? These should all be Mauser-Werke, right??? Why have two separate marking operations one year apart??? This has raised questions for me several times here... |
