Hans Tauscher
 

Yesterday a friend gave me copies of period catalogs and correspondence of Hans Tauscher. One of the more interesting items of information in his catalog was ".45 Caliber now in course of manufacture, will be on the market shortly." I am not sure the correspondence exactly matches the date of this catalog, but the correspondence is dated July 20, 1908. The early catalog showes the Model 1900 and Model 1902 Carbine. The Model 1900 is $25.00 with a spare magazine, and the 1902 Carbine is $50.00. 100 of the cartridges for the Carbine in either full steel jacket or softnose were $2.50.

Another Tauscher catalog of apparently after WWI also advertises either new or used Lugers. The used (Grade 2) Lugers with 4" barrels were $19.75 while the 6" and 8" were advertised at $24.85. The new manufacture Lugers were priced at $34.85. He also advertise a .22 S&W at $23.85 and a Colt Woodsman for $22.85.

I saw an "Advertisment", That was on auction a while back,

and I retained a copy thereof.

It was dated "OCT ?? 1922, and listed several varieties of lugers with some that, I think were used, @ $19.75.

Could this be related to that of which you speak ?

Probably from the same time frame and indicates that many surplus military Lugers were sold in the US following WWI. These surplus Lugers are still around today that came through commercial channels with the GERMANY export stamp.
