need expert opinion..
Hello,
I just inherited a Luger pistol and I am trying to figure out what it's worth. Here are some details on the pistol: Its a DWM dated 1916. All serial # match (including mag). No grip safety. Has stock lug. Cal is 9mm. Grip is walnut and in beautiful shape. 4" barrel. Magazine bottom has small crack and chip missing. Bore is in excellent condition. Finish is original. I would guess bluing 80% straw 60%. Top of chamber marking "1916". BTW how do I include a pic??? (url!!! the pic is on my computer..) Thanks in advance Marc |

<div>Turn off flash for photographs and place it on a solid color mat--should bet better result than the second photo. The first photo, though, is great and helps a lot. First, it looks like a 90-94% pistol not 80%. Second, it is a standard military P08 of 1916. Lots made and lots survive but few have their original factory magazine (actually two came with it originally). All 1916s have a stock lug and none have a grip safety. The value of this one could range from $700-950 depending on a better analysis of the condition. Bore condition, grip condition looks strong on left side (if shot with its orig grips--the right grip could be cracked and wiggle), the internal parts are original, etc. I suggest it is worth about $800 plus or minus--here in Colorado.<br />

My dad bought this one for CAN$50 in the late 1960s from the guy who brought it back from Europe in 1944. The guy was a airmen in the Canadian Air Force. He brought it back, stored it for about 25 years and sold it as is. My dad never done anything to it. So I think it's a pretty safe guess!! |

Unfortunately, the Luger is currently stored near Montreal and I live in British Columbia so I can't take another pic right away (i'm having the rest of my collection shipped soon). Anyhow, the overall finish is the same all over the luger. There is no scratch or dents anywhere except for what appears to be some gouging under the safety lever (see attached pic). The grip condition is identical on both sides and I know for a fact that nothing has been replaced on it since 1944 so I would think that all internal parts are probably original. Pretty Pistol !!
I would think a Luger in this condition would sell for something like $1000 to $1100, maybe more, providing the bore is also as nice as the outside and the internal parts have matched numbers. The condition is outstanding and the matching magazine would a at least $100 to an already nice pistol.

1916 DWM
The gouges you mention appear to be the normal machining marks that appear on these 1916 DWM's.
