Donating a gun to a museum is not the way to go. It is generally underappreciated, is not well taken care of and will eventually be sold off to finance new acquisitions and/or facility costs or relegated to uncontrolled storage to make room for new exhibits, never to be seen again. I have seen old guns that languished in a museum basement that were reduced to red lumps of rust and rotting wood.

Thanks Ron, I stand corrected and withdraw my suggestion.

I must admit you both are right!! The beauty with our luger family is that we are allowed to post opinion without fear. The knowlege derived among those who really appreciate our collections and the the sharing of them with members who all whom have our common interest and passion is priceless! I think its a perfect balance!. Its primarily dedicated to one firearm and interesting aspects of that particular varieties and accesories! One thing I find so important is that everyone can post their own opinion without fear of being chasticed~ And Thats my opinion, Thanks All! Its also a very special honor to be part of our family!~~~Eric

Ron Your point is well taken. My Mom had worked for The Department Of Navy as liason with Grumman and their F-14 After her death in 1979 I accepted on her behalf an Eric Sloane watercolor drawn in pencil 1940 of Grumman F4f carrier based aircraft aka Wildcat! It is specially known for the battle of Midway. I considered lending it our Air and Space Museum. I later felt the same as you. They already have a full mural that would drarf Moms' print!! I thank you and my rare common sence!http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grumman_F4F_Wildcat

Ron,
Goodness I never realized that! Probably it depends on the museum administration too, but we've got to be realistic, and probably what you affirmed is absolutely true and to be taken into consideration before donating anything to a museum, thanks again. Sergio |
