front strap marking 4.G.G.M.G.20.

I just receiver a rather strange short frame Luger and all the frame parts are matched to each other three digit number with no letter . The front strap is marked 4.G.G.M.G.20. and I have no idea what this means . I also do not know from what varation model this is as it came with a complete matching 1917 DWM Artillery upper barrel assembly .

The frame is set up for a grip safety ( removed ) and the markings on the thumb safety ( regular type ) area have been moved from the bottom to the top ! No stock lug at all and it does not look ground down either . The serial number are the commercial hidden style and all of the match . The safety bar has a proof mark on it , Crown over letter "D" or "W" , I'm not too sure which one but it is numbered to the frame . I'm ready not too sure what I have here , but I'm thinking maybe some type of "06 Navy originally ???

It means (Königin Augsta) Garde Grenadier Regiment Nr.4 Maschinen Gewehr Kompagnie.
The M.G.K. was part of the (3.) Füsilier Bataillon.
Station was Berlin. It was a young regiment, "born" in 1860.
Some pics would be nice and helpful.

I do have some pictures but they are rather poor quality . I'll try to get some better ones taken soon . Thank You so much for the info on what the strap markings mean !!!

Luger Serial Number

It sounds like the frame is grip safety frame mated to an artillery upper. The fact that the arty barrel is 8" suggests this was a bring back.

The serial number on the frame, is it a 5 digit number over Germany, which would suggest an export frame?

frame itself is three digit number with no letter and NOT marked Germany either .

Luger Serial Number

What is date above chamber and logo on toggles? This might be a clue. The more I think about this one it could be a factory original where they converted a grip safety frame to make and arty. However the lack of a stock lug trows me off that line. How are the pictures coming?

With the grip strap marking indicated and a three digit serial number there is almost no way it can have a grip safety frame.

the Artillery barreled upper is dated 1917 DWM , with fine tune rear and standard front sight . The complete upper is matching to itself , four digit numbered with letter suffix .

The frame has the cut in the bottom rear left side for the grip safety spring ; an upside down "coma" with a hole below that .

btw , I married this rather strange Artillery up to the very strange Artillery Ertaz holster that I had put up here on the forum .

I am trying out a new camera 35mm SLR ; this is my first time using it , so I hope the pic's are okay in telling the story ....

Is that a navy receiver?

Luger Frame

Hi

Great pictures! Definitely a spot or grip safety spring in that frame.

Has to be an '06 commercial frame utilized to make a P08 in 1909 or 1910.

CorporalGungee 12-25-2013 02:14 PM

I'm not sure if the frame is a commercial or Navy ; but in any case where it is cut for the grip safety I'd have to say it's a '06 frame . Where it was a military arsenal rework modification , this really throws my head in a lope . In any case there is no stock lug and it's a short frame .

Luger frame

Hi,

I believe all commercial frames had a 5 digit serial number. Looks like a 06 frame may have been reworked before serial numbers applied.

What do they do to convert safety bar on an 06?

CorporalGungee 12-25-2013 09:50 PM

it looks like they just replaced it with a P08 version and removed the grip safety parts . the safety & bar are both numbered "07" to the frame , as well as the grips , trigger , side plate , locking bolt . I did not see any numbered on the magazine catch , but did not take it out either .

06 Frame

Hi,

I tried to place a 08 safety and bar in an 06 frame and it wouldn't fit.
I'll try again, but I think you have to change the bar somehow to fit.

the safety bar is different I think ?
