Looking a 1916 over to keep or send back

I am trying to decide on a 1916. It has an area on the bottom of the side plate where two digits appear to have been but are ground away by a rotary grinder. The two correct numbers are on the side; where they usually are placed.. The plate fits a little snug. One grip screw has been cross threaded. Screw and frame will have to be worked on - skillifullly - in order to fully recover from the dreadful deed.
The gun supposedly belonged to Mr. Jan Stills until 10 plus years ago.
Anybody have any dealing witha Mr. James Walsh, Oregon?
thanks
Jack

Sounds like a forced match commercial side plate. The grip screw is a fairly easy fix. I guess the important part is the price. Do not know James Walsh. Bill

Always buy the gun not the story. That's on my blackboard.

I must agree 100%, something similar happened to me many years ago with a Colt 1911 US Army, I bought the flipping story with it and I made a mistake, and obviously when eventually I decided to sell it I lost money, sorry but I 've never conned anybody.

Jack

Why don't you ask Jan Stills himself if he has any record of this Luger, it is likely he still has them for that pistol, if he ever owned it. You can find him at www.lugergunboards.com

I inquired of Mr. Stills but he never responded. If I can find the side plate, I'll be fine.
thanks
Jack

If I can find the side plate I'll be fine. Any side plate you find, even with a matching number may have fitting problems. It's been indicated above..Price is the key here.
