Id. of Unit Markings

I have a 1911 DWM, in about 85%. The grip strap is marked 19 T.S. 2.176. Can anyone please tell me what unit this weapon was from? Many thanx..........

Re: Id. of Unit Markings

Is the T in script? I believe this is a Train Sanitat, or medical MASH-type unit.

Re: Id. of Unit Markings

The Mark means:

Train-Bataillon 19,Sanitats-Kompagnie 2,Waffe Nr.176

This translates to:Train Battalion 19,Medical Company

2,Weapon Nr.176

Thank you for your help. It's nice to know where such a jewel had been in the past.....

Re: Id. of Unit Markings

If the "T" was in script, couldn't the T.S. also indicate a telegraph, field signal unit luger ? (Per C. Kenyon's Lugers At Random, on page 118.)

Didn't know if the Poster said "yes' or "no" to the question if the T was in script...

Re: Id. of Unit Markings

Yes, a scriptic T would indicate a Telegraph Unit.

However,the designation S.A.is Feldsignal-Abteilung or

Field Signal. As per The Imperial German Regimental

Markings by Jeff Noll.

Re: What books (or whose head :D) do you get

A few dedicated guys did a lot of searching and work and then published the information in a book rather then keeping it secret so other people would know what they had.

I also have a 1911 DWM, with B.3T.S.1.122; I thought that this was a Medical Train marking, if not, what is it?

Holster ID Needed

Was just rummaging through my accumulation of holsters and found one I am unfamiliar with. It appears to be a totally ordinary black P08 holster. The back has the large "P08" stamp. Also on the back is stamped:

OTTO KOBERSTEIN

LANDSBERG a.W

1942

I don't remember ever seeing a holster after 1940 without a wartime manufacturer's code. This has no code and no Waffenampt. Also, I have thusfar not found this manufacturer listed in any of my references. Would it just be an ordinary commercial type?

Re: Id. of Unit Markings

Looks like a Bavarian Medical Train unit marking to me.

Re: What books have unit ID information?

See Jeff Knoll's German Unit Markings

and Goertz and Bryan, German Markings from Official Sources.

Hope this helps,

Tom

Re: Id. of Unit Markings, defined

The markings on the grip strap are straight capital letters. None are script. If my description is not clear enough I will be glad to submit a picture of the grip strap. Please, tell me your pleasure. Again, many thanx for the info........SCHWOB
