Byf 1942 All Matching Luger Value?
Hello all, I need some help valuing a luger that is coming up for auction. http://www.auctionzip.com/cgi-bin/ph...ry=0&zip=&kwd= - I plan to bid on it because I like lugers and want to own one but Im totally clueless on a value. Thanks!

I appreciate your interest, however getting your first Luger at auction is not recommended. Do you have the opportunity to disassemble the gun to check for internal numbers and thereby get an honest evaluation? Will your ego make you pay more than it is worth? Auction prices, IMHO, are never bargains, expecially after conquering competing egos, paying sales tax, and FFL transfer fees. Better to hang out here a bit and learn before getting out the checkbook. But to answer your question, that one is a later production Mauser made gun, code BYF, and with the black grips referred to as the "black widow" model. From what we can see it is matching, but we can't see most of it so that is a crap shoot. If it matches in and out, and has no big zits that we don't see, I'll guestimate $1500 low end, maybe $2000 tops. But these things go pretty high at auction, stupid high. If you proceed, set a limit and stick to it. And keep us posted. dju |
I agree with David 100%
Also, remember, you can't return the gun bought from the auction, as it's AS-IS. ( except, extremely rare circumstances); however, you can return to a dealer or fellow collector if it's not to your liking, as there's usually 3-5 days inspection period. |
First of all welcome to this forum.
I'm sure somebody now thinks: "Oh noo, him again saying the same things again!" BUT, before you buy your first Luger from the first seller that has put an ad on the net, or even worse getting it from an auction. get yourself some god books, and READ as much as you can on these fashinating guns, you'll see there is always an awful lot to learn. |
