Allied Bombing During WW2
 

I wondered if bombing affected luger production late in the was? I quote~ "In August 1945, units of the American 11th Division overran the twin cities of Zella-Mehlis and Suhl. The only damage evident in the cities was that caused by the foreign labor which had celebrated their liberation by much damage and looting. Damage due to the Allies was virtually non-exitant due to the lack of resistance to the American 11th Division during the occupation and the inability of the Allied Air Forces to locate the plants during the war...The Military Governor of Suhl from September 1, 1945 until December of that year was Captain David C. Elder of the 563rd AAA Batallion. He documents that several employees were allowed to re-enter the plant under guard, and assemble several Luger pistols as gifts for members of the Military Government. A newspaper article written shortly after the war documents that American soldiers entered the Krieghoff plants in Suhl and immediatly began assembling Lugers from available parts" The Kriegoff Parabellum.... Mauser had little problems with bombings during the war. They were only attacked twice and damage was relatively minor and quickly repaired. The second bombing run did knock out the power plant, but the physical production locations were never severely damaged.

Mauser had an interesting protection scheme: The factories lay in a valley, surrounded by high hills. Across these hill steel cables with vertical steel lines, held in place by iron balls, formed a protective curtain that proved to be very effective. Remnants of this 'Fliegersperre' can still be found on the hills outside of Oberndorf am Neckar.

Did they too fall in Russian hands?

No, worse: In French hands :)
