Old Richard Widmark movie?
I remember an old black and white movie where Richard Widmark plays a hot-tempered young man in a time period that must be shortly after WW2.
He spends a lot of time twirling a war trophy Luger around his finger like a six-shooter... Anyone know the movie I am talking about. I haven't seen it in about 40 years, and I would love to see it again if I can find it to rent or online. Thanks. |
John,
Perhaps you are thinking of "The Halls of Montezuma" that starred Richard Widmark as Lt. Anderson. He wasn't the one spinning the Luger however, it was Skip Homeier who played "Pretty Boy Riley". But that move was about WWII and was in color, so maybe it isn't what you are remembering. |
John,
Could you be thinking about Kiss of Death, 1947 with Richard Widmark playing the psychopathic killer Tommy Udo?? John |
Several good movies from the past on TCM lately...Gregory Peck in "Pork Chop Hill"; Kirk Douglas in "Paths Of Glory"..."7 Days In May" and "Fail Safe" were on not too many months ago...And Alan Ladd in "O.S.S" is out on DVD (Luger scenes at end)...
I've noticed [correction: Amazon has informed me] that at least one movie that I wanted that was only available on VHS ["The 7th Dawn"] has now been recorded to DVD by popular demand...I guess it does pay to complain... :D |
Do any of these ring a bell John?:
Go For Broke Halls Of Montezuma Street With No Name or Desert Rats I believe all are movies that featured Richard Widmark and a Luger was displayed at some point during the course of the movie. Lon |

Let's make it easier for John, folks!
Are these the scenes you have in mind? They are all screenshots from the above mentioned "Halls of Montezuma". Greetings, Douglas |
YEP that is the one! Halls of Montezuma... Thanks Douglas, and all those who previously mentioned this film... the screenshots make it clear that is the right film.
It also appears that he has violated my mother's rule of cleaning guns on the kitchen table. I am glad she didn't see this! :D |
