I just wanted to say thank you to all the US Veterans out there.

i'd take my father out to dinner, but he died in 1994. Served with the navy during the Soloman islands battles. Was an PBY metalsmith, kept them flying so they could spot the japs coming down the "slot". He said they were not supposed to land in the open ocean, but often did to pick up downed pilots. They would pop rivets every time they did this, they carried large amounts of lead pencils to stick in the holes to keep from sinking, just the right size he said.

Perhaps there would be a "page of history" behind any veteran.

My dad died 24 years ago, now I tell my daughter his tales of his service during the WWII.

Actually when I was little I was lucky enough to listen to the tales of one of my grandfathers and of an old uncle about the Great War (1915-1918)

My dad was a Naval officer in WWII & Korea. I followed in his footsteps during the Vietnam era. To all of my fellow vets- enjoy this day of honor because you earned it! Bill

My Father did 30 in the Army. He went from the Horse Cavalry ( 13th-Fort Clark, TX ) to Special Forces. My Mother was an Army Nurse in England and France '41 to '44. I miss them both dearly. God Bless all Veterans, especially those on this Forum!

My Dad was stationed at Dutch Harbor in Alaska at the beginning of the war, then was sent to the Philippines to fight the Japanese where many on both sides lost their lives, now we have come full circle, my Son travels often to Japan on business where he met and married my beautiful Daughter-in-Law, they just had their fourth child and I could not be prouder.
P.S. That is their oldest Daughter and me in my Avatar. :)

My Father was a WW1 Vet. I a Navy vet and one of my sons was in the Navy. Here's to all vets this day!!!!!!

My dad was also a WW2 vet. Joined on Dec 8.Went into the Army Signal corp and was all over the Southern Pacific theater. He was a radio operator at forward fighter bases and participated in 4 island invasions.
He passed on about a year ago. Still adjusting to it.

I served from 71 thru 74 but all I did was make crowns and bridges in the dental lab. But my father served and this is his day. Unfortunately, he died back in '79. Sometimes I'll go visit his grave on Memorial Day, but this year, if it's open, I'm going to go to the local indoor range and put a few rounds through his Luger that he was always too afraid to fire. (He always believed it had a weak spring or something. It doesn't.)

My father also served WW II - Navy. Was in the Pacific theatre, was there for the invasion of the Philippines, etc. I only heard the REAL details about the Japanese attack on his ship when he was on his deathbed - those guys seldom talk about things like that, but I was sure glad I finally heard the tale.

He passed 2-1/2 years ago, and I miss that man every day.

From a veteran to all of the veterans on the Forum - I salute you. I considered it just doing my duty. What a win-win situation. I was sure the better for it.

I spent the evening with my dad. He's 89. He served in the Fourth Infantry Division, 22nd Regiment, under Patton in WWII. He was on the front lines.
