Just a long overdue thanks to Ted, Hugh, and G.T. for their contributions to a old restoration project that I have enjoyed for many years now. Haven't seen one of these posted in a while, and pictures do not do justice. Rust blue finish, straw/fire-blued small parts, it is my example of a BBQ-Luger in all of its' politically incorrectness(finish) for a 1939 S-42. Was originally purchased as an all matching, very nice, but dipped shooter that Ted consented to perform a "TDJ" on. Hugh refinished the grips and G.T. added a custom aluminum mag bottom. Had intended to shoot some, but just too darn nice, so it remains as delivered from Thor. Thanks guys, RP.

The 1939 is actually a Code-42, my bad. I'd be remiss not to mention that G.T. both crafted a custom aluminum bottom for the project as well as modify an original FXO center pin magazine. I wanted a pre-1937 looking Luger finish including a heavy duty magazine with side pin attachment, but not showing any mag body below the frame(mag-well) like standard FXO's. I don't know if G.T. currently offers this non-standard modification since it risks cutting a perfectly good FXO to accomplish the task. Anyway, it is excellent with a perfect side "pin" retainer; G.T. also provided his performance package spring/follower for reliable 9mm feeding. This luger is pristine internally, tight, shows little to no mechanical wear, but best of all has a POW affect when looking at it in person thanks to Ted's dedicated craftsmanship. :cheers:

First of all congratulations indeed, I think that now you really have a real piece of art in your safe, and I'm a bit envious I confess.

About the shooting isssue, I've often been dragged into this old question: "to shoot or not to shoot the damn thing", and generally I recommend "NOT to shoot old and scarce guns in their original pristine condition", BUT in this case I would at least test it with all the possible care and respect for the work done to it.
After all if it hasn't been shot, than I argue that it is not a gun. Some people would say that a ship isn't a ship until it floats, until then, it is just a funny shaped piece of construction.

Functional art after all should work, and nothing is proven to work until it does what it is expected to do.
A Ferrari or a Bugatti are surely works of art suitable for display in a modern art museum, but I argue that Mr Enzo Ferrari did not intend for that and no doubt he built his cars to be driven.
A Stradivarius is only really appreciated when it is played.

After the Fedex truck dropped it off at my office, I spent most of the afternoon admiring it, and as soon as I got home I promptly went outside and put a mag full of 9mm WWB through it. It functioned perfectly! I am looking forward to shooting it again in the daylight.
