question about rebarelling

Saw a Luger today that had a replacement barrel on it with no proofs yet numbered to the gun but no letter suffix on the barrel. No halos--nice clean numbers. The three was round top vs. the 3 on the (original Erfurt 1918) which was the flat top. Strange thing though was that the rest of the gun had been refinished with that black flat finish (not sure what it is called). Rear toggle pin had been replaced and etched-not stamped with the last two numbers of the gun. Extarctor was numbered with the same rounded 3 and was obviously not the original. Firing pin is #96 and non-fluted no Erfrut marks on it or the retainer.

Question: It is like 99% true that a re barrel job will have some kind of proof and some kind of acceptance stamps if done at a factory? Is it possible this could be a Vono rework? The only other time I have seen this flat black finish was on an East German Luger. Or, is Aarron Davis correct that Vono Lugers will have blank toggles and VONO on the chambers?

In any case, the story that "Grandpa brought this back from Italy after WWII" is kind of hard to picture.

Thanks in advance

Gary
