Which parts to replace ?
 

Hello Guys,

Every once in a while I just have to shoot my matching '36 S/42.
Not much ( 10 to 15 rounds of S&B Subsonic) and not very often, about 10 times per year.
Of course I do not wish to damage any numbered parts, so I would like to replace some parts for new ones.
So my question is ; which parts would you replace for shooting a matching numbered pistol ? And which parts are most likely to fail or break whilst shooting ?

I know I shouldn't shoot it, i've tried to make it a safequeen, but I just can't.....:evilgrin:

For a start, firing pin ,ejector, extractor. Bill

Maybe even a different breachblock if possible. What about the firing pin spring retainer.....I broke one of those shooting my DWM??

Just for the sake of being an old grump...I woud opt for replacing the gun with a shooter. It probably is a lot easier than trying to round up the various parts and may be even a little less expensive.

If you change the above parts, then leave them, it will appear mismatched if showing off ;).

And to swap the breachblock alone is a pain, so you'd want to do an entire toggle. Thus a shooter would be cheaper.

Of course a complete toggle train would be the "hot setup" as far a ease of change out and safety to your original parts....once it was fitted properly to your upper. I see them for sale occasionally, and if you don't mind a chrome plated one, or pitted/reblued one, the price can be pretty reasonable.

You can never go wrong in just acquiring another Luger for shooting as suggested above.

Probably the parts most prone to break are the firing pin and the ejector, and I agree completeely with Ron, I don't want to sound like the usual "old grump" either BUT I would opt for replacing the gun with a "shooter".

Yes, a shooter would be nice, but unfortunately local gunlaws forbid me to own more than 5 firearms.
I already own 4 more, which I need every one of them for hunting and match shooting.
So I'll replace the mentioned parts and shoot it very very occasionally , just a few subsonic rounds.

Again, thank you for all your help. After a long thought i've decided not to shoot the gun anymore.
Just can't stand the thought of breaking something on this piece of history, so I let her rest in my safe, nicely covered in Rennaissance Wax.

My 1900AE came with a broken firing spring retainer...Not evident until a detailed stripping...Cycled & fired OK...

At least take it apart and check...
