Luger clip
I recently obtained a WWI or earlier luger clip with a smooth wooden bottom. #6781 was stamped in the wood over apparently sanded numbers 5245. Under the numbers were two vertically placed + signs. I've never seen this before. Any help?

Just a guess, but it was probably renumbered to another gun.

Re: Luger MAGAZINE
Herbert,
This seems to be a case of someone, somewhere attempting to make it appear as though this "Magazine" were the proper "Magazine" for Luger ser #6781 rather than the weapon with ser #5245 for which it was properly matched. And he did a poor job of that and ruined any collector value that the "Magazine" may have had. Now it is as they say "a shooter". ViggoG |

The plus sign indicates the spare magazine.

Re: Luger clip
Herbert,
Your magazine sounds like one that came with a 1920 Commercial I recently bought. The wood bottom had been sanded down very noticeably and renumbered. The new numbers APPEAR to be of the original WWI era, and the job was done years ago. Since Lonnie is correct that the collector value was not much, I replaced this this bottom with one of G.T.'s great wood bottom and the magazines look like new now. You may want to do the same.
