Everything BUT the Luger.
Well I couldn't believe it and I didn't want to say anything until all was said and done. Saturday the mailman came and had certified letters from the Police to come to the property management devision to retrieve the .38, .45, and 30.06 but the Luger will not be returned BECAUSE it was not registered. My lawyer said I should "be happy" that I was able to get ANY of them returned and if I wanted to pursue the Luger further he would need more money. Unfortunetly in April I was laid off from the railroad and my new job is about half of what I made before and I just can't afford to have him go any further so it looks like the Luger may be gone for good.
The ONLY shot I have left is to wait until the police auction and go hope its there to buy back. In buying it back it would then be registered and legal as far as the gestapo....er, I mean police would be concerned. Of course the gun laws in this state are set to change Oct. 1st to be the strictest in the country meaning I'd have to buy it back, be finger printed, and pay for a state approved gun safety course and fire arms training. The great part is the state doesn't have ANYTHING set up for any of that! I guess I'll keep you all updated. |
That really stinks Terry, so much for living in a free country. Fortunately the laws in Maryland are slightly better then the ones in my home state of Illinois. When a firearm is confiscated, or whatever term one chooses to use, it is SUPPOSED to be sent to a facility in Chicago where it is cut up and melted down, no exceptions. I have a friend that is a Deputy Sheriff in our county, population of about 100,000, he says that it is not uncommon for someone to make two or three trips to Chicago each week. I asked if they destroyed all weapons, even collector firearms such as Lugers, he answered in the affirmative.

Best of luck with this long shot, Terry. Sometimes, if you expect the worst, then the most unwanted outcome merely meets your expectations. And anything other than that is cause for celebration...and it ain't over 'till it's over, and ya never know!
