Need help to ID holster
 

Does anyone have a clue as to the type and value of this holster? I know it is WWI but I need help to ID the markings. Also I would appreciate any input as to value. I would be interested in trading this for a WWII military holster, anyone interested? Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Here is the manufacture stamp from inside the flap. I can make out WERKE on the top, 1915 in the middle, and BERLIN on the bottom, but I cannot make out the first word on the top.

Here is a view inside the flap. Not only is there a loading tool pouch, but also what appears to be a cleaning rod holder? Is this unusual?

Finally a close up view of the inside flap. Is this holster rare,and or valuable? I have a G date luger and would prefer a WWII holster. Thank you again.

Your holster is a WW1 luger holster (obviously, given the 1915 date) that was dyed black on the front (common for WW1 holsters--perhaps half are like that). It was then modified by adding the cleaning rod flap during the Weimar period and reissued to someone in a M.W. unit (MinenWerfer=mortar and the slash mark is typical of Weimar military unit designations).


All luger holsters are rare and valuable in my humble opinion. Yours is of average value but is less common than most WW2 luger holsters. WW2 holsters were made in large quantities but are also more popular among collectors than Weimar and WW1 holsters. Consequently, your holster is about worth what an average 1939-1941 luger holster in average condition is worth, in my opinion.

Phil, This WW1 holster is a common variety holster of this era. It does have unit markings and the addition of a cleaning rod holder under the flap which is most commonly seen on 1934-1936 holsters. I believe this to be a later addition. It is in reasnable shape although slightly distorted from another type of pistol being inserted long enough to stretch the leather. It escaped being dyed black and this makes it a little more desirable. I would give it a value of somewhere in the $150.00 ballpark although on a good day it could possibly reach a bit higher. Possibly by an American GI... This probably reduces the value a little since it is a Luger Holster and not a P-38 Holster... This stretching will likely not go away...

Thanks Jerry, I got this holster from the vet who brought it back (with my G date inside). It wasn't ever up for auction, however I am considering doing so in order to get a WWII holster.....unless someone wants to make a trade?

I never really gave that impression a second look until now. I attempted to put my P-38 in the holster but it would not go in far enough to match that wear mark. I then put my luger in there, and it was actually the luger that made that mark, it matched up exactly. Apparently the vet I got it from stored the luger in this holster for 50+ years and that is the resulting mark. It does look like a P-38 was carried in there, but that is not the case. Thanks for all the info men.
