Help to identify my Luger
 

Hi everybody, would like have some help to date and identify my old Luger. It comes from my grandad who was Spanish Army Coronel, I don´t know a single thing about this weapon, so if anyone can help to know more about it I´ll be very grateful.

There is not much to say from your photos other than:
- It is most probably a WW1 DWM
- It has been heavily buffed and refinished and very poorly re-strawed, (too much heat).
- The takedown lever appears to have an Erfurt proof, but no number?
- It has been HORRIBLY demilled, (Spanish Goverment?)

You need to provide photos of the top of the pistol, including any markings above the chamber and on the toggle, along with photos of the frame serial number, any proofs on the right side upper frame behind the barrel and any other markings you may find. These need to be close-in, clear photos in order to be able to help you further.

If the hole in the barrel (forward of the upper receiver) is the only demill action taken, a new barrel would put this old pistole back on the firing range...:cheers:

Hi, thanks for the quick answering. Yes the horrible hole was made by the Guardia Civil who manages the controling of firearms in Spain, they didn´t allow me to keep it in order of firing and they almost destroy it...it´s a pity.
I´ve done some shots over the marks I found in the gun, hope those can be useful to you.

Your gun may have been an Erfurt, judging from the trigger, takedown lever, extractor and the proofs. The center toggle has been "scrubbed", (markings removed), but at one time had the Erfurt name and Imperial crown.

Your gun would be considered a "shooter" here in the US, (no collector value), but in its present condition, would be worth maybe $400. A new barrel would allow this pistol to shoot again, assuming that nothing else has been damaged in the gun.

In any event, it is a nice reminder of you Grandfather and should be cared for. Keep it oiled with a quality product. Treat the grips with a good wood preservative and do not store it in the holster, as this will eventually damage the finish.
