OT: AT-84

Guys, I'd like an opinion on a gun that caught my eye in an Austin gunshop the other day, a 9mm AT-84. I'd never heard of it, and the salesman explained that it was a CZ clone. I went in looking for Lugers, but I keep thinking about that nifty little pistol after I left. It was virtually new in box, with 2 15 rnd. mags, for $389.00. I've since started checking out CZ's on the net...Would I be better off with a CZ? Who makes the AT-84? I know it's Swiss, so I assume that's good.

I'm just looking for a toy that could double as a self-defense weapon. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Don,

I am not familiar with the AT-84, but I can say that the CZ-75 is a great 9mm pistol. Are you sure the AT is made in Switzerland or just a Swiss company? The CZ-75 clone I ma familiar with is the EEA Witness pistol. This one is not bad, but not the quality of the CZ. The price of the $389 seems a little on the igh side. The CZ-75B can be bought for approx. $350.

Good luck on the purchase and I can vouch for the CZ as a good one.

I had a CZ 75 a few years back. Excellent gun. Sent it on down the line only because of its size. Never had a problem, lots of firepower, very accurate. The system is being copied by several makers, for the price I'd recommend the origonal.

That gun was imported by Action Arms and made by a company calledITM in Switzerland. The quality is averybit as good as the CZ but I don't think that parts interchange. At $395 your dealer is asking for 95% of Blue book. I'd see if you can get him down to $350 or so tax included.

CZ-75

Originally, these could not be imported as source was proscribed [commie] country. They were cheap in Canada and brought about $1200 if you could find one here? [you know how that happens?]

Then, the Swiss and others copied them so they could bring them in.

I suggest you buy an original. They have updated the design a couple of times.

This is a FINE pistol!

Enjoy!

Re: CZ-75

Is the CZ-85 an update of the 75?
