My Last Iron Cross.............

I've had a few IC's in my lifetime but not as many as I have now. It started out as just a few additional period military tidbits to dress up a Luger display. I had stopped at eight, individual and on parade bars until this one came along. This one tells a story as some of my others do but not as this one does.

This one came cased, in pristine condition, never been worn or even taken out of the box. Inside was a newspaper clipping, neatly folded twice and place on top the ribbon and a perfect fit. The paper is worn, yellowed with time but I would like think it to be something a mother would have done to her son's Iron Cross.

I shall get a small frame for it and display it along side the IC.

The recipient was an Alfred Albert and he was with the Landwehr Inf Regt 32. This unit came out of Thüringen and became part of the old DDR after the WWII. Beautiful state and their Thüringen wurst is damn good!!!!!!

Would love to know more about Alfred.

Is the newspaper an awards or "KIA" list?

Local paper for awards.

It's an award list for sure.
For Iron Cross collectors there is an interesting note at its end, as it reports the awards of the rare 1914 Spange for the 1870 Iron Cross.

I too wouldn't hesitate to jump on it! Congratulations!

I've been trying to find out what was a "Leitungsaufseher" and the best I can come up with is a "Telegraphen-Leitungsaufseher" or Leitungsaufseher der Reichbahn.

Maybe a telegrapher for the military train system?????

Railway communication network warden (Leitungsaufseher)?????

Maybe someone better with german can translate.

There were four Telegraph Detachments in the 32nd LW Inf Regt.
