Selling a Luger to a Californian
A potential buyer asked my about reluctance to ship/sell into California. Do most of you C&R guys concur that it is a risk sending a handgun to California, either to an FFL or to a C&R? I'm not on any approved list with the CA authorities.

All post-1898 handguns, as well as antiques chambered for readily available ammunition must be received by a licensed dealer. C&R guns are exempt from the CA DOJ drop test. Verification approval letters are readily available.

I've sold a few pistols to Californians, including a S&W Mod. 648 , 3 or 4 Lugers, 1914 & 1934 Mausers, Colt Delta Elite 10mm and a 70's production Browning HP without any problems at all.

Some more info about shipping guns to the former Golden State:eek: I am not an FFL but I want to ship a firearm to a California FFL. Do I have to obtain a Firearms Shipment Approval number before shipping a firearm to California? No. Only shipments from Federal Firearms Licensees (FFL) require a Firearms Shipment Approval number From the FAQ on the DOJ website. Bob |
yes, when I had my FFL 01 it was easy to get the approval and as a FFL 03 nothing is required except to ship to a FFL 01
easy, no issues I could care less what I sell to anybody in the USA, as long as they send me an FFL I am okay with it (I double check and see if a 01 or 03 is legal), keep in mind there are other types of FFL's out there where it is legal to send to - but that is fairly uncommon, although I have sent guns to Pawnshops every now and then if memory serves me correct. |
The guy in TN who sold me mine had no problems shipping to my CA FFL.
