Black Widow Rig goes for 10k
|
No question its a nice example - nicer than my 40 42 - but not $8500 nicer! Wow. Seller must be laughing all the way to the bank!
|
A very nice gun indeed! The safety lever almost appears to be strawed, but I suspect that is just illusional.
Anyway, I'd like to own it, but... dju |
I concur... a NICE example of a byf 41... but WAY overpriced by a couple of orders of magnitude! I hope the buyer is happy, but certainly not a happy as the seller!
|
WOW! Must be all the zeros on the parts.
|
I'm not sure it's woth that, but.....
Here's what it has going for it.... extremely nice condition, not mint, but nice... and we can assume, high dollar for that, but there are some, "but dammits!" on it also?? Gun, mags and holster all have slight issues, ... So, it's probably not all condition generated... First strong price point, probably because in the world of byf 41's, this is a fairly rare bird... E/135 marked, and right at the end of production of the 41's..... Next, low serial number & 00 on all the small parts, I thought I was immune to this aspect of collecting, but I must admit, it is a clean looking unit... Third, it's a Black Widow, some better then a regular widow, and quite a'bit better then a white widow (Nickeled) ..:)......Now, to me, that doesn't bring it up to 10K.... maybe 5K ??? Unless there is more, and there certainly could be.... By the way, I could fix that rusty fxo mag pin for him!...... might add another K!... Best to all, til...lat'r...GT

This is what happens when two individuals with more money than brains and fueled by testosterone "just gotta have it".
Don't be surprised if you see this gun listed again after the buyer sobers up. |

I brought up the "300" and "buckshots" on the Still forum, but no one bit on it over there!

Nice gun.
Way over priced. The holster pictured sure looks like a repop holster I bought a few years ago. Exact same markings and locations, exact same look. Just saying. Bob |
I just looked up the winner's buying history on AuctionArms. This buyer loves Winchester rifles. He bought quite a few of them since May 2013.
In auctions, those Winchesters are crazy. Let alone a rifle, even an ammo box could go 5 digits. God knows what's attractive in it?? Another crazy gun is something called "Henry rifle", not attractive at all in my eyes, but people could pump it to 50k, 70k. Money is not money in that context. So, if a Winchester guy want to buy your Luger, you're lucky. |
I think someone needs to do a search of recent Lottery Winners

A little bit more research confuses me. Say, if one guy sold a BW at $1677 in 2004, under what condition he would buy the same variation at 6x price in 2013? http://www.gunauction.com/buy/6106587/ Unusual in normal logic? In normal logic, if you buy a variation back, shouldn't it be priced similar or lower than the one that had been sold earlier...... |

The lack of halos would concern me! Anyone else? Opps ya right no halos on later Mauser's.
But the finish still concerns me a bit. Especially for the cash put out without a hands on inspection. I compared the photos with two BYF 41 Lugers I own. First the stampings seem deeper on mine. Especially the "41"on the top chamber. and the rear frame (near the hump) seems to smooth? On mine you can observe slight machine markings. Also almost no holster wear? But it survived with the original holster for 70 years? Anyway maybe just being sceptically on my part. But for the price you should be. Bob |

Thanks Alvin I already corrected that. Must have been typing at the same time.

The minty ratio of some guns are higher than others. There are quite a few Mauser 1930 C96s and byf Lugers in nice shape, for example. I would believe some of them were captured in unissued condition, no holster, holster of super nice Luger were probably an add-on later. Very nice instances of relatively common variation is not cheap, realized price of $4K, $5K are commonly seen in auction. This AA item caused attention due to it went unusual high.

Living:
http://www.gunauction.com/buy/12329245 Winner is currently on this one. Let's see who can compete with him.... For fun, you may put down a number, I bet you won't win it. But what if he goes to restroom and misses it, and you win it.... that will be a big headache.... probably not worth the trouble :) |
Often amazed at the price some folks will pay...
I always wonder if it is just a case of "I gotta' have it" (no matter what.). Shopping around is more than half the fun!! |
