Death Head Luger Question

Hello, Yes I am a newbee. But I have done alot of reading on this message board, and I like it. I have come across a Death Head Luger (1916 DWM) on a Mauser lower frame (toggle pin retaining buldge). How do I know that the, atleat the upper part is real or fake? Is there any way to tell by the Death Head stamping? I really feel that it is not authentic. But you never know. I am also sure it is a East German Rework. Any Thoughts?

I don't remember the exact wording, but Jan Still probably said it best when he said that until definitive proof is found of their origin, the Death Head Lugers will remain a hotly debated subject.

Being on the unknown side, I would take it as a fun item, something for conversation...

And unless it was costly pay for it accordingly.

Luger Ken; I know of nobody that can answer this question, and be sure.

Re: Death Head Luger Question

A photo of the deaths head would enable some comparison with other known examples. Existing DH's seem all to be end of WW1 lugers in well-worn condition. I have heard of a couple that are claimed to have been in recent imports. If yours came to you straight from an importer, that suggests it is some form of 1916-1918 marking.

Please post a clear photo or scan of the death's head mark...

So we can compare it to others known to this forum...

Thanks,

John Sabato

Is this a gun that you have or are you thinking about buying? Jesse

Gosh Jesse, we don't hear from you for weeks at a time!

But the first mention of a Death's Head Luger and you are standing right on the keyboard! How do you do it? Do you have some kind of sixth sense?

regards,

John

Re: Death Head Luger Question

I have seen two of these guns in the past and they were crude fakes!

The reference "Backbone of the Wehrmacht" has a chapter on the K98 Death Head rifles with some great photo's of Death Heads. My personal GEW 98 Death Head rework allowed me to compare the detail of the scull with the lack of detail in the fakes.

Did Somebody Say DeathHead! :D

Yeah my sixth sense started pulling me to the Luger forum uncontrollably, next thing I know IĆ¢??m drooling on my keyboard !!! I try to check in from time to time but I'm always on the go these days. I hope this summer I will have a little more time.
