Black Widow Opinions

Looking into purchasing this Black Widow rig. Comes with 2 magazines, the holster, the take down tool, a belt, and the name of the Vet who captured it. What do you all think? He's asking $2800 for it.

alvin 08-24-2013 07:15 PM

Buy it.

Do the grips look original?

Oh My! A Mauser Banner FXO Magazine! I want it!

garandguy56 08-24-2013 08:51 PM

One is just labeled P.08 and the other is the Masuer Banner. I'm no expert so any help on the rig and magazines would be great.

Correction! The new photos are of a different Luger which I assume to be a Black Widow. Seller wants $1500 for it!

I might be wrong, but to me the rig reproduced in the first 9 photo seems original. I 'm not so sure about the grips in the latter photos.

alvin 08-25-2013 07:51 AM

Buy the byf, but request the seller to offer 14-day non-firing inspection period, so you have enough time to inspect yourself, and optionally consult other people if you're not sure (that will take time). That's not a big deal for the seller, 3-day and 14-day makes no difference for him. Your risk is minimum. For new collectors, this way is much safer than randomly buying one from local gun show.

Thanks all! What do you think of these grips? I think the gun is in great shape and the finish isn't too bad. Comes from a vet as expected. I'm just hung up on the grips and why they appears to be painted black. I know byf 42's had wood grips but maybe someone wanted to "fit in" with the black widow crowd? Maybe it's possible to remove the black paint?

Sufficient wear pattern by the safety lever so I don't think it was recently done...

alvin 08-25-2013 09:09 AM

Another one? BW are booming these days.

The grip panels of ARMSLIST are aftermarket. Genuine panels are hard to come (as spare parts). How much he wants on this one?

garandguy56 08-25-2013 09:13 AM

It's the same byf 7033 as in the earlier photos (second set). He wants $1500 for it.

alvin 08-25-2013 09:40 AM

If no intention to collect Lugers, just like to have one, this $1500 one is actually more attractive. You can love it, and shoot it occasionally without worrying about the panels could crack. Consider it being a fancy shooter.

garandguy56 08-25-2013 09:43 AM

Exactly what I was afraid of...it's my goal to have to a nice collectable piece that won't break the bank so when I came upon this one I got really excited.

garandguy56 08-25-2013 09:59 AM

Do you think $2800 for the first rig is a good price? How about removing the cosmoline from the part on the left side of the frame?

Ben M. 08-25-2013 12:00 PM

for $2800, that gun has too much wear of bluing on the grip straps.

alvin 08-25-2013 12:09 PM

The grip of $2800 one looks decent from side. The one with much grip blue loss was the $1500 one with replica panels, almost 50% cheaper. If looking for a good one, $2800. If looking for an economical one, $1500. No bad guns, just trade-offs.

The Banner mag is for the 70's era Mauser Lugers.

The grips on the first example gun ARE original... use these photos to compare to the other thread where the grips are not original. The difference is very obvious.

The grips on the second example are horrible reproduction grips IMHO.
