Front sight issues- too low
 

Hey,
I have an artillery luger which seems to be shooting 14 inches high at 25 yards. I looked at it and the front sight on it seems to be too low.
I was thinking of using JB weld to build up the height of the front sight. If this is a bad idea does anyone know of a better solution?
Maybe someone who can fabricate a taller sight?

Have you thought about replacing the front sight?

Where could I buy new front sights? I have looked on the internet and cant seem to find any that are taller than the one I have.
This is a gun that the parts don't seem to have matching serial numbers, so I assume its a parts gun. It functional perfectly except for it shooting too high. I am not 100% sure that is the proper front sight for it.

As a parts gun, there may not be a notch in your receiver under The rear sight. If that is The case, your rear sight may be sitting too high, which would produce precisely that high point of impact. Your front sight is normal, so I would look at the rear sight first, followed by whether the barrel was properly installed.
Send a photo of the area under the rear sight where The barrel meets The upper receiver.

Hi Ryan, This photo shows the Artillery "notch", it is cut into the top front edge of the receiver. Artillery Lugers have a front sight blade that is 5mm high. P08 Lugers (the ones with 4" barrels) have blades 5.5mm high. For a cheap fix you might try getting one of these from Tom Heller on this forum. He should have them in stock.

I would be willing to bet after a shot or two, the rear site catch slips, and site moves up a bit. It does not look like the rear site is the fine tune type, is it? JB weld is not the answer. Do a little more thinking before you glue your luger.

I had a similar problem with a Navy parts gun. I ended up getting a tall K98 Maurser front side blade and stuffing it in. Looks sort of hideous and I would have preferred an alternative, but it does work.
I agree that you should see if you have the notch in the receiver just beneath the rear sight, you should try faster ammo with lighter bullets, and put a rubber band around the rear sight to be certain that it is not creeping up under recoil, etc.
The lack of a notch is my first suspicion.
And remember that the lowest notch in the rear sight adjustment is probably meant for way past 25 yards. Shoot it at 100 yards and see where she prints.

It appears that there isn't a sight notch. The sight looks like it's resting on the chamber ring.

Here are some up close picks of the back sight.

I looked at some artillery lugers on different sites and it appears to me that the part of the front sight that is part of the barrel is higher than on mine. I think the blade that sits on top of it is about the same but I am speaking about the "pedestal" that supports the blade.

Could that be the case?


By the way, does anyone have an idea of the worth of this? I am mainly interested in a shooting gun.
