Magazine and holster questions...

When it comes to current/recent past production magazines, what's the consensus besides the totally unavailable Mec-Gar being the best?

I ran across something called a "WMP", made in Italy. Mec-Gar's competitor? Can't find anything online (or here) unless I'm missing something.

What's up with all the 7 round mags? Why only 7? Are they junk, or "ok" for 7 rounds?

Lastly, I assume the "correct" color for a (repro) holster would be black for my 1940 42?

1 more week of waiting is driving me nuts! :jumper:

1. I have always assumed they were 7 round, that 8 is pretty damn hard to get in

2. I have repro holsters, but black would be correct - most repro are made crappy and too tight

Hold out for a Mecgar if you are wanting a shooter magazine. A more expensive alternative is a Swiss. Beautiful mags but $100+ for the 1929 plastic bottom type.

Zorba..Ca'mon! Save your money and get an original holster! Every time you pick up a repro it's like eating tofu when you should have filet mignon! Don't cheat yourself..You like the finer things in life..Wait a year if you have to but the joy of having a good original will last a lifetime and it will be worth more than what you paid for it when you go to sell. A repro made in Pakistan? Well.. they're just nasty. It would just assault your sensibilities whenever you handle it. Who needs that?

Meh - maybe. 75 yo leather doesn't really do it for me, tends to be a bit on the crusty & nasty side.

OK! I try to steer beginning collectors in the right direction . crusty & nasty, Funny! I think the same thing about Pakistani repro's! Different strokes for different folks!

In the long run original leather is a thing of beauty and a joy forever. I have holsters in my collection that are soft as butter, smell sweet and are a thing of beauty. old World German craftsmanship is a treasure to observe. The have a sense of history about them that is so important to a genuine collector of military artifacts. The markings are interesting..the patina, even the stitching. Everything about them brings history alive.

the orginal magazines for the schweize m1929 lugers are very good and the cheaper brown or black ones show up on ebay for $ 90-120 or so.

I currently have several M29 brown bottom Swiss mags available, all in servicable condition $75 vg+ used or $100 like new + $10 insured priority S&H.

If you want to try an inexpensive Luger mag, then go to CDNN. They have/had Stoeger OEM Luger mags for sale at a reasonable price. I have 3 of them and they work in my lugers. One of them was a little "fat"(poor quality control) but after a little tuning with some wet/dry fine grit paper, all is well. I would suggest that you only purchase one, and see if it will function in your Luger.....if good to go, then purchase a couple more. Just a thought.

Aren't the Stoeger Luger magazines sized differently? I remember somewhere seeing that they are not completely compatible... Glad to see you got them working as necessary with some tuning...

Marc,

Two(2) of the mags worked perfectly in my Lugers, only one was slightly oversize and was snug going into the mag well. They have strong springs, and seem to work fine. I can't fuss considering the price.

Lads,
Purchased a very nice - and seems to be good quality holster from www.worldwarsupply.com, fits my 08 nicely and is solidly made of good leather. They are available in black or brown and are under $30!!!! I expected something less and got more than I anticipated.
Try their website if you haven't already.
Since I'm new to this site, I might be repeating old info - sorry if that's the case.

I bought a repro Luger tool from him - cheapest price around and its nicely made. I was eyeballing his holsters too.

Original magazines are 8 round. Many repro mags are 7 rounds.

I take my repro holsters to the range. Recently bought a repro Luger tanker shoulder holster from IMA. Would it have bankrupted the Wehrmacht to have spent a few extra pfennings for a loading/takedown tool pouch on their shoulder holster?

Since the German Army NEVER made such a thing I believe you can go ahead and blame IMA.
