1911's anyone?
 

Although I'm a real novice on Lugers, I do have a lot of experience with 1911's. Anyone else share this love? I have DW's, a Kimber, a Les Baer and a Springfield with calibers of 9mm, 38S, 40S&W, 10mm and 45ACP. Also have Kimber 1911 top ends in 22LR & Hornady Mach2.
Until I developed a Luger obsession recently, I used to shoot my 1911's extensively. I'm also an avid handloader and enjoy tailoring loads for each caliber and pistol. My latest handloading endeavor is 30 Luger. :)

I love the 1911 - carried one a lof of my career in the US Army (80 to 2000)

I have two 'original' ones, and then a commercial in what I thought was nickle, but instead is bare, but shined metal ;) Its in 45 ACP gov't model and is one fine shooter!

I also have a early one that was military but has been buffed and nickled, but hey, its a 1911

I have an upper in 38 Super, along with a couple of mags, now just need to get a lower (its in nickle, so ought to get one in nickle ;))

I recently did a 5" Gov't Model in 7.65 Luger; haven't quite gotten it tuned in yet... :o

I have a Series 70 Gold Cup 45 & a Series 70 Gov't model 38 Super, and an Argentine Model 1927 in 45 ACP...Plus a couple wildcat barrels...I used to shoot/reload/tune them back in the 70's/80's, but kind of 'overdosed' on them... :(

Love 1911, it's a world famous pistol. Once owned a stainless steel (grey colored) Colt 1991A1, it's pleasant to shoot it (I shot everything I had at that time, all modern instances). Before buying it, reading warned recoil of 1911 and I was a little bit worried. But it turned out it's much more comfortable to shoot than my 9mm Glock 27 and .38spl S&W 36 etc. Almost acquired another 1911 back a while ago, a used Norinco 1911, but the previous owner installed a big safety lever on it which damaged the balanced appearance of the gun, so I passed it.

For causal acquiring of a modern 1911, which one is better choice: (1) S&W 1911, and (2) Springfield Armory 1911?? Springfield claimed being milspec, S&W is a brandname probably implied better quality?.... Any suggestion? Many reviews on the net gave Auto Ordnance 1911 low credit, I probably will bypass that one.

alvin- I think Springfield would be the better choice. Many 1911 'smiths use it as a base for their customs. I find them sturdy and dependable. The only drawback on the Springfields is a rather heavy trigger pull which can be easily cured. KW

I wish I owned a "government property" 1911A1. I carried them when under arms during the 1963 - 1988 period when I was on active duty, including for a year in Vietnam. It was a comforting companion.

I, like the folks above, also enjoy the 1911 handgun, and have for many years. A good number of mine are of the older variety (WWl, WWll, 1960-70s) but I do have a few newer 1911s with 3in bbl.

I was loading 45ACP ammo this very morning for my old 1911s, as I prefer "soft" loads for them, but it needs to be a RN bullet. I don't want/need any cracked frames or slides on these old warhorses.
