Old American Riflemen mags and Lugers
 

I have picked up old ads before and every now then enjoy buying some old gun magazines. Picked up some early 1932, 1933 and 1935 NRA American Riflemen.

Always fun to look through.

One thing that I wonder, in this ad, whatever happened to all those 6 and 8 inch barreled lugers? I know I have had my share of odd sized barrels, but from an ad like this, it makes me wonder, any original WW1 lugers? or all rebarrel as you desire.


The motorcycle patrol is from Camp Perry in 1932-35 after a meet.

Were the new 9mm Lugers listed on the ad "parts assembled by someone"?? Stoeger emphasized that their expensive 9mm Lugers being "Genuine Luger", "first time since 1914, the genuine 100 per cent factory built Luger in this caliber and lengths", etc, implied earlier 9mm Lugers commercially imported into the U.S. were not factory built, at least not German factory built.

Were gun parts exported, and assembled outside Germany, then sold to the U.S., before 1934?

Lugers were specifically made for export by DWM, you find them marked Germany (export marking) to the early 1930's. and I am pretty darn sure that companies like Pacific Arms were selling imported arms in the early 1930's, and that would be used ones, etc.

I don't think this is really well researched, a lot more were warehoused after WWII in England and other places and sold here in the fifties.

Pacific Arms advertised they would sell you and install any custom barrel you wanted up to I think 24 inches.

A few years back I ran across a 58' issue of Guns magazine. On the last page was an add for "Hunters Lodge". Ye Olde Hunter was offering 4" Lugers in Excellent condition for $24.95 and for the 8" target version it was $29.95. Hand pick"special selection" for either model was $2.50 extra.

I know those days are "Gone with the Wind", but it sure is fun to remember simpler times......................

Back a few years ago, a gun store in Waltham (yes, "The Watch City") downtown had a long barrel Luger for sale. The barrel was probably half a yard long. It's surely an eye-catcher. I don't know it's Pacific Arms or not. The price tag was $10,000, and it hanged on the wall for years. The store mainly sold various kinds of Colt/Browning automatic pistols, big and small, occasionally had Lugers.
