Mr Luger?
 

I get the impression that "Mr. Luger", AKA Walter Smeddy, is a reputable dealer and a good guy to deal with. He has several Lugers at any time over on Guns International that seem to be fairly priced to this neophyte.

Has anyone had any experiences with him to relate?

You mean besides meeting him at an auction several yrs ago?

Did something bad happen at the auction? :confused:

I noticed he bids on a lot of stuff on gun auctions as well as sells on them.

If you're referring to "Misterluger" , I know nothing about him personally, but have observed he engages in a lot of "flipping". Recently won some auctions for around $1200 to $1500 and advertised these Lugers starting around $2500. Though there's nothing wrong with this practice it does bother some people.

I was looking at a 1906 Eagle in 98% condition he had for sale. I asked him why is it only $1800 - is it refinished? His only answer was the economy is bad and if I don't trust him then I should not buy it. He was very reluctant to discuss the gun in any detail - I think that was his way of telling me to go away because it was refinished. Not dishonest, just a little vague and sneaky, which I don't care for.

He was friendly and nice. When I met him he was first buying Lugers for resale at the auction, same reason I was there.

Why would people object to him flipping guns? I would say more people do that than keep each one? I figure that I can make a bit and help pay for something I want to keep.

You have to have a good eye, luck, knowledge and the money to do so. I didn't mean to sound so flippant, just was continuing the conversation... I thought :(

There's probably really nothing wrong in "flipping" guns, I've even done it a few times. But buying something for $1000 and selling it a few months or year later for $1200, is a little different than buying something for $1000 then listing it for $2500 the following week. This doesn't mean he'll get $2500, but a new price average is being set.

As Mr. Tinker mentioned, I only flipped to upgrade what I had, not to make a living from it. Other people have different motives.

My only concern about "flipping" guns is that it keeps driving the prices up.....not just for the people buying flipped guns but for everyone else who sees an equivalent gun they have and say, "If he got that much for his, I can get that much for mine".
