1914 Erfurt Artillery model, what's it worth?
I was gifted an 1914 Artilliery model Erfurt Luger.
The magazine doesn't appear to be original as it is nickel plated. The weapon is in great shape, although it appears to have been re-finished somewhere along the line as it has a "case hardened" look to it. The serial # is 5519. The pistol came with a holster, but this doesn't appear to be original either. What is this weapon worth on todays market? Or has the Gun Control madness made every gun worth a ton of money? |
If serial numbers match throughout, $1,500 on up to over $2k, depending on condition.
I believe your mag may be original, as nickeled body mags were original to some of the early guns. It definitely should have a wood bottom... The more knowledgeable members may contribute to/correct this info. PICS, PICS, PICS, please! |
The bottom of the mag appears to have a brown wood finished round part.
I will get photos up and running ASAP, how about the bluing, it looks almost too good to be true and is kind of has a case hardened metal patina to it, Could that possibly be the original too? |
Heres a few photos. Right click on the X's and check open link.

Here are his pictures. It looks refinished.

Yes has been buffed and reblued including the strawed parts. Bill

Most certainly heavily buffed and refinished. Too bad, as I don't see any heavy pitting, which would have warranted this heavy a hand.
|
Scrolling down the pics, I encountered the one of the top view first, and the buffing didn't look too bad, although the sharp edges look softened a bit; then the left side, Holy Mackerel! Someone made it look like an Aimco from Houston! The color tone of the finish looks decent, too bad about the buffing prep.
