1917 setup.

This is a 1917 rig with one matching mag and stock. I have a question on the snail drum. Is there a cutoff time from the first type to the second type? Never got into drum mags but I have both types and just was wondering.

Very nice!

Hi Jerry, Type 1 snail drum magazines were introduced in early 1917, and replaced after a few months by the far more common Type 2's, which were manufactured until the end of hostilities in Nov 1918. Since the drums were not issued with the guns, like the three conventional magazines, either type would be correct for your rig.

The serial # on my 1917 is 843 (e or l) I always found it hard to read them alpha characters sometimes.
Thanks Norm for the info on the drums. Never gave them much thought. I only have one matching mag for this one but better than not. Not the best picture but I am not much of a photographer....No patience! |
